Morrisville's Alarie Wins SUNYAC Honors

Repping The 'Sweeg in JC
Since there is no SUNYAC thread nor is there a Morrisville Mustangs thread I decided to give Andrew Alarie his 15 minutes (or maybe it'll just be seconds).

February 8
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Alarie, Morrisville Senior Forward (Carlisle, Ontario)
Alarie scored his first career hat trick against Potsdam on Friday, netting three goals (two on the power play) and an assist to lead the Mustangs to the 5-4 victory.

So why, you may ask, does this deserve a thread? Well, it is the first time since Morrisville has joined D-III that a Mustang has won Player of the Week Honors. Not only that, you'd have to go back to the week of November 12, 2007 for the last, and only other, time a Morrsivlle player has been one of the Players of the Week.

Freshman Rob Sgarbossa was named Rookie of the Week for tallying 3 assists in a 5-2 win over the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen on Friday and scoring the only 2 goals against the Dutchmen in a 4-2 loss on Saturday. Interestingly enough, that 4-2 loss was the last time LVC has tasted victory.

This thread brought to you by the New York City "blizzard" which has dumped a whopping 5 inches on Brooklyn thus closing my workplace for the day.

five inches eh?

Upstaters would have their sandals on still:cool:

Luckily most of CNY is actually getting a break from the snow right now, which is where I'm headed tonight for the Syracuse/UConn basketball game:D

Can it live up to their last meeting? One can only hope right?

LETS GO ORANGE!

You going as a fan, or as a journalist? Does the L-H even cover Syracuse Bball?

If not for work, I only have this to say: So, you can take a day off for UConn@Cuse, but not Pburgh@Oz? Some DIII Hockey fan you are. ;)

Check out this week's (when it gets put up) On The Periphery in my column talking about the Mid-Atlantic region's "reaction" to snow. :)

Love the last sentence! "..in Rochester, we call it Wednesday!" :D

And I see you're jumping on the wagon that Oswego has a let down against a highly motivated Mo'ville this weekend...

No. That was a mistake. I'm picking Oswego. The editor is going to change it, but I'm stating it here publicly so everyone knows.

Re: Morrisville's Alarie Wins SUNYAC Honors

Rus or anyone who knows, what is the tie breaker if Cortland and Morrisville are tied at the end of League play?

I am sure Russell will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is goal differential in H2H match-ups. In which case Morrisville wins 9-6.

Since Morrisville is basically tied with Cortland
it looks like a fight for the last playoff spot will be hard to predict
With the games coming up
Fri. 2/19/2010 Cortland @ Geneseo
Sat. 2/20/2010 Cortland @ Brockport
Split the last time they played the two

Sat. 2/13/2010 Morrisville vs. Oswego

Fri. 2/19/2010 Morrisville @ Buffalo State
Sat. 2/20/2010 Morrisville @ Fredonia
They lost both games

Right now it looks like it is Cortland's to lose
Morrisville Has to win one where Cortland needs to win both

I think I have it right

Remember what Morrisville did to Oswego last season!
Do I think it will happen again? Not really - but it was my Pick 'Em Pick! ;)

In this scenario, yes.

The tie-breaker order is as follows:

1) H2H record.
2) Number of conference wins.
3) H2H goal differential.
4) Conference goals differential.

Note that if Morrisville ties their last two games and Cortland splits their last two games, they will still end up tied in points, but in this scenario, Cortland wins the tie-breaker because they will have more conference wins than Morrisville.

I checked the SUNYAC website and noticed that Morrisville and Cortland are currently tied for the last playoff spot. I thought that Cortland held a 1 point advantage to this point? either way, I'm pulling for Morrisville to make it into the playoffs and maybe even make some noise if/when they do.
