MLB Ballpark Roadtrips

Re: MLB Ballpark Roadtrips

I think it's more of a Midwest vs Northeast thing.... Do people in the Northeast even own vehicles  :p

Re: MLB Ballpark Roadtrips

Minnesotans tailgate hockey. *shrug*

So do Northeasterners.

Football, soccer, hockey -- tailgating.

Baseball, basketball* -- no tailgating.

(* except college, but all college sports involve Midwestern-level alcoholic self-annihilation).

Re: MLB Ballpark Roadtrips

Does Citi Field have parking? Obviously Boston and the Bronx do not. Kinda difficult when you don't drive to a game... Philly has parking so they can.

Re: MLB Ballpark Roadtrips

Why not baseball?

Watching a baseball game live is a modified act of tailgating unto itself. The only thing that makes it passable is to sit there with a beer in one hand, and something to eat in the other.

Very good point.

Yes, Citi has a parking lot, though it's not as big as Shea's.

There are (very) limited parking areas in the Bronx, and there are some areas where tailgating does happen, but it's mostly a case of hitting establishments around the stadium.

Fair enough. I’ve always viewed baseball as a social event.

I think that is the distinction. In places where the football stadium becomes the third largest city in the state on gameday you have to tailgate. On the east coast you're in a real city. You have an enormous and varied food and drinking infrastructure all around you.
