MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Giancarlo just had his 90th K of the season. We're 65 games in.

Edit: Figured he'd be the leader. Gallo has 99 through 68 and Moncada has 92 in 59.

This whole season has been Three True Outcomes heaven. Dunno what it is.

Nice start for the Twins vs Indians this afternoon. Odd that they are the team we can beat so far this season.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. Can't win a series against Chicago or Detroit, but smack around Cleveland regularly. I believe the Twins have had a winning record over the Tribe for a few seasons now.

Interesting happening in the Yankees/Nationals suspended game from May 15.

Soto gets a PH homer on June 18 during the continuation of the May 15 game. Soto was not actually on the Nationals roster until May 20, he went 2-4 in a AA game on May 15. The homer will be credited as happening on May 15, but will not be credited as Soto's first home run.

Huh. So... time travel.

OK.

Does this mean that if a player in the suspended game was himself subsequently suspended, he would be permitted to play in the game as he was not "yet" suspended?

Is a suspended player on the 25-man roster?

I think this question comes up whenever this happens but here goes again:

Let's say X was in the first "half" of the game for the Nats. In the meantime he is traded... to the Yankees! Now the second half is being played... is he available for the Yankees? God, I hope so -- "only man to play for both teams in same game."

Otherwise they would have to permit the Yankees a one-off call-up or they would be at a disadvantage.

Seem to remember something similar happening in the NBA.

Found it. Sixers and Nets had a game replayed due to protest, but had made a trade in the meanwhile, resulting in players scoring for both teams in the same game.

Ralph Simpson won that game. 6 point margin and he scored 8 more for Philly than NJ.

@MichaelFarber3: Bartolo Colon passes Juan Marichal for most wins by a Dominican Republic pitcher. Frodo - I mean the Expos - lives.

A new one, I guess...

Good friend of mine threw out his back in his late 20s while loading the dishwasher. Turned out he had a bad disc in there somewhere and that's the moment it decided to eff with him. Still has problems at times.

A's beat the Padres after being down 2-1 and to their last strike. PETCO was Coliseum South!

Also Blake Treinen is the best closer in the AL and I will hear no word from anyone who disagrees

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

I encourage anyone with MLBTV to drop in on the TV broadcasts of the Mets occasionally for the rest of the season. The gallows humor between Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez is starting to approach Nobel Prize in Literature levels. It's not any given quote, it's just the oeuvre in general.

For best effects, tap in around the 6th or 7th after we've fallen behind for good. Of particular interest are games against other Doubleday-challenged teams when the quality of play of both sides is below sparkling.

This might actually be the most depressing sports team I have ever followed, and trust me it's saying a lot.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Twins continue their mysterious ability to beat several top teams (not named Yankees), but lose to everyone else.

Series wins over Houston, Boston, and Cleveland.
