I thought the Metropolitans were playing the Highlanders this weekend?

However, on the local front, Strasburg is on the DL with a shoulder inflammation.

They are. The Gothams are playing in Washington DC this weekend.

Jose Reyes was just part of what should have been a routine DP. He missed the bag, and threw it away. Mets.

ETA: The Mets proceed to get out of the inning. Not Mets.

Interesting result. Reyes missed the bag for the force and then threw wildly. Original call on the field was out at second, so with the force you can't charge Jose with an error at first. But when they reversed the call at second they now (correctly) charge Jose with two errors on the missed bag and the throw.

So one call results in him going from 0 to 2 errors.

The Mets are the first team to shutout the Yankees. Last team to be shutout this season.

Just saw the play. Wow. Called out on the old-school neighborhood call. That was terrible on his part.

Interesting thing is, Toronto shutout the Yankees for 12 innings. But because the Yankees won in 13, 3-0, it's not considered a shutout. (I was there, BTW.)

I get that. I have no problem with that (it's like a goalie who losses 1-0 in triple overtime), but technically, what Toronto did is greater than what the Mets did.

A co-worker who was involved in coaching youth hockey a while back once told me that one day a person from the NHL came in to talk to the youth team coaches in his organization. Near the end of the Q&A period, someone asked why is fighting allowed in the NHL when it's essentially banned in youth, high school, and college hockey.

He answered, "Youth hockey is a sport. In high school, hockey is a sport. Even in college, hockey is a sport. The NHL is an entertainment business. Any questions?"

There were no questions...

It's like when Harvey Haddix was 12 perfect against the Braves back in the day, but lost it in the 13th and then lost the game. Interestingly enough, it used to be that 9 innings was a perfect game, so his was retroactively taken away.
