Why the hell is opening day today instead of Monday?

Never understood why Opening Day isn't on a Saturday.

Just a heads up that if you have T-Mobile, this week's T-Mobile Tuesdays promo is an entire free year of MLB.tv. Download the T-Mobile Tuesdays app to claim.

Interestingly, the twins and Red Sox had a tradition of being the first spring training game. Maybe they still do.

I had no idea of this at all! Is there a story behind it or did it just kinda happen? Did it go back to the Senators? Did they share a facility the way the Mets and Cardinals used to?

I have absolutely no idea the history behind it. I'm guessing it had something to do with the proximity of their Spring Training HQs.

And a quick google search seems to indicate this is no longer the case and hasn't been for some time. Maybe it was just apocryphal.
