MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

I think he closes out his career in Japan next spring with the Mariners, at the very least.

That's what I was thinking. Seattle opens the season in Tokyo for those who don't know.

Ichiro had just four hits so far this season. It was time.

Sounds like he's doing the professional equivalent of red shirting. He's still going to dress and go through warm ups, but once the game starts he has to go to the clubhouse or owners box.

Really, it's an all around smart move by the Mariners. Ichiro certainly has to be as smart of a baseball mind as there is, let him be around everybody and everything in the organization.

The Mets will DFA Matt Harvey tomorrow.

He’s been butting heads with team management this season, and his stuff simply isn’t there now. He might be a reclamation project for someone, but he might just be done.

Watch the Twins grab him...

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Here's the thing. He's 29, but he hasn't been any good since 2015. His WHIP went through the roof after 2015.

He might be worth a flyer for someone, for next to nothing. Much along the lines of Tim Lincecum a couple years ago, even though that turned out to be a disaster. But I certainly wouldn't pick him (and his contract) up off of waivers. Not at $5.63 mil for this season.

Albert Pujols: 3,000 hits.

We DFAed him when he wouldn't accept a trip to AAA to get fixed, so whoever takes a flier on him will have to put him in the rotation.

I loved Matt, but he's got nothing left. His injuries simply destroyed him.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Dodgers pull off a 4 pitcher, combined no hitter vs Padres, in Mexico.

Will we someday see the end of the no-hitter? At least the no-no completed by the guy who started the game? We already know the era of 300 game winners is gone. Complete games are almost unheard of. Teams are reluctant to let a starter go through a lineup a 3rd time now, and usually then it is only workhorses like Kershaw who are allowed that sort of luxury. It isn't a complete shock anymore to see guys pulled despite pitching 5 or 6 hitless innings. Will we someday see pitchers pulled with a perfect game through 6 or 7 innings?

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Valid questions, and I hope the extinction of the no-nos/perfects don't happen. The appreciation of seeing those is waning amongst the younger audiences, though. They want to see the HR-fests.

We're seeing that trend in the stats, given April, with Ks > Hits stat that's been talked about. It's turning into all or nothing for an AB.

If you haven't seen the Yadier Molina....incident.....don't. Good lord. 102 MPH pitch, that was tipped and hit a bad area......
