MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

God I forgot how bad Hawk Harrelson is. Just turned on the Cubs game, and I already want to rip my ears out after five minutes.

The first 3 1/2 minutes of that must have been between inning commercials then because for most people it doesn't normally take 5 minutes. I think there are perhaps 5 TV teams that I find interesting. 20 that are so run of the mill as to be interchangeable, 4 bad ones that really should be doing the weather, and then there are the White Sox. Ken Harrelson is in a class of bad all by himself. He'd have to only suck mercilessly just to improve. The single worst announcer in any sport I have ever heard.

First two minutes were Steve Stone talking or hawks famous complete silence, so it was only 3 minutes of actual Harrelson.

Our long national nightmare is over. TBS returns to MLB broadcasts so we can have one of those rare telecasts of a Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees games. For some crazy reason next week they are showing a game between two teams I have never heard of, the Dodgers and the Nationals. Is that some sort of an exhibition or something, with a U.S. Olympic team?

Listening to Brian Kenny drone on about sabermetrics makes me hate him. Is that irrational?

Some of the stats have value, but at some point it's just overboard.

60% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow. Does the ASG have a make-up date for Wednesday, or will they just revert to best team for home field?

They won't move it to Wednesday. It would be more likely that it was cancelled than that. But forecasts and timing it looks like they will get it in at the moment.

Has the ASG ever been cancelled? I assume they'll play Wednesday.

It was cancelled. 1945 cancelled due to travel restrictions. 69 moved to Wednesday, 81 moved to Sunday, 83 moved to Wednesday.

The league wants players to have Thursday as an off day, not a travel day. Very unlikely they move it.

Stark (ESPN) tweeted they modified derby rules due to possible rain after 11 pm

4 min rounds instead of 5. 30 second max bonus for 420-ft HR.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

I'm a fan. I'm also glad they shortened the time and limited bonus time. I feel like these guys are tiring themselves with these rules, let alone with possibly 2.5 more minutes. Should make for a better finals rather than who can push three or four over the fence.

Certainly had drama, but chalk winning all but one round was a little old. I think I'd actually like to see them lose the bonus next year, and maybe just leave it at four minutes.

The celebrity softball game hasn't been the same since Kenny Mayne and Harold Reynolds stopped doing it.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Did anyone MISS the bonus? I agree they should do away with it, although it added a little more drama. I liked the length and think they should just keep the "adjusted" rules... a 3+ hour derby is just too much. The matchup format was a lot more exciting than the old format.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

The bonus was adjusted as well. Originally you could earn more time with even longer HR. If they want to keep the bonus that would be fine, but they need to up the distance. 425 ft is a popup for today's players. Maybe go to 450. Then you start to separate the power from the wall scrapers.

I think without the bonus there would have been several ties (Incl. Frazier in at least 1 of the rounds), which means extra time with both players batting again. So doing away with it may not save any time.

They still need to find a way to make the final round fair for the guy who just batted and could use a longer rest.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

I believe the original bonus was 1 minute for 450 or 465, and 30 seconds for two in a row past 420. With the original five minutes, that's two and a half more minutes that most guys would've gotten. Plus, there were other rules that were even more complicated, like in the last minute the clock would stop between pitches on home runs, and if a player hit two in a row the clock would stop until he had an out. It definitely could've gone on a lot longer.
