See, my understanding is that Fenway is better than it's ever been with the recent renovations... No way it's as dumpy as Wrigley... I'll judge when I go there for the Sox/Sawx series at the end of July...

Awww...da poor wittle white sox fan is upset that his team plays in a nondescript bland stadium in a ****ty part of town.

I'm conflicted with how I feel about it. On one hand, it was a gimmick to have the hill and flag pole in fair territory. On the other, it's been a welcomed quirk over all the cookie cutter ballparks that were a blight on the MLB until recently.

I don't really think it was a gimmick as much as a tribute to Tiger Stadium and Crosley Field. Comerica had a flag pole in play at first until they moved the fence in.

True. Forgot that they also referenced Yankee's Monument Park also when they built Tal's Hill.

I loved that Pudge Rodriguez complained enough about the fences that they moved them in. Comerica had a vast right field until the fences were moved in and the bullpens placed out there.

Comerica had a big left field. They moved the bullpens from right field to left, and brought the fences in. Some limp-wristed writers in Detroit (anyone who reads the Tiger threads knows exactly who I'm talking about) think that's not enough, and that any ball hit farther than about 372 feet should automatically be a home run.

If you're sitting in the blue seats and are over 6' tall, bring some knee cushions. If you're a bit overweight, prepare for a tight squeeze.

Well, yeah. Fenway was built before people thought ranch dressing and gravy were 2 of the 4 food groups.

I'm glad they moved them in. Not from a home runs perspective, but because the stadium looks much better now than it did with the huge hole in the right field seats for the bullpen.

Yeah, they did about as good of a job as they possibly could when they moved the fences in there.

Whoops. Yes, I meant left field was vast. :o My bad. I mixed up which way they went with the pens.

Greg Harris in 1995 pitching for the Expos. It was his last season and maybe even his last game in MLB.

I believe MLB is referring to Venditte as the first full time switch-pitcher in the modern era.

Honestly, switch pitching at that level is so beyond messed up...

First, how do you figure out you can even pitch effectively? I'm ambidextrous overall (generally more left-handed than not) and cannot throw with my left hand.

Second....how the hell do you get that good where you are pitching at the major league level?

The odds of all this have to be staggering.

Aww boo, that's no fun. I know we complain (rightly so) about at-bats taking forever because of guys leaving the box, but if it's because the pitcher and batter are playing a mental game of chess between every at-bat that seems like it would be fun to watch. Extra points if the batter runs to the other side of the plate during the windup!

Even if the pitcher misses on the first try, there will be (at most) 3 more pitches aimed at the batter's shoulder blades.
