When the second OF kicked the ball on the track my internal clock said "this is going to be close!" I was surprised that he didn't try -- I figured he either pulled up too short at second, was gassed, or is slow.

That's what I'm saying. I think he has to try, just because he's probably more likely to be safe at home than the Royals are to get another hit. If he gets called out at home, it's no different from your teammate blowing your "triple" by ineffectually fouling out to a panda bear.

Bumgarner should be given another award for having no visible reaction through the whole thing--guy is unflappable.

I don't think there's an award for an affect disorder.

I heard about the incident this morning on Opie Radio.

Now seeing the response, I absolutely love that GM has embraced his nervousness, I laughed pretty hard when I saw the hashtag on their website.

I was referring to the teams thenselves not the division affiliation.

That's what I figured, but your post read differently. That's why I clarified that the White Sox are the only AL Central WS winners. There have been no others.

Of the teams that are currently in the AL Central, the last titles (along with league/division affiliation) were:
White Sox - 2005 (AL Central)
Twins - 1991 (AL West)
Royals - 1985 (AL West)
Tigers - 1984 (AL East)
Indians - 1948 (AL)

There's a picture floating around that says it was the right decision to hold him:

As has been said before, are the odds of a bad (terrible?) throw from mid-left to home greater than the odds of getting a hit (or a wild pitch/passed ball) off of Bumgarner? Maybe, but can you imagine what would have happened to the third base coach if the throw is merely poor, and Gordon gets thrown out by 20 feet? That would have been an awful ending to the World Series. IMO, more blame should be put on Perez for not being able to lay off a 10-foot high fastball.

Yeah, I mean the guy has the ball 15-20 feet from behind second in the process of turning and throwing and the running was just turning past third. It's almost certain he's going to be thrown out by 10 feet. The only way he doesn't get thrown out is if the (what appears to be) second baseman is off-target. Infante had a .978 fielding percentage this year. Bumgarner had an OppBA of .127 in the WS and Moustakis was around .230. What's all that mean? I have no idea but I wouldn't have sent him.

Cubs fire manager Rick Renteria.

for no reason, other than to hire a "celebrity". This sucks. Hate to wish ill on long-suffering Cubs fans, but I hope this blows up in their face.

God forbid the Cubs take advantage of an opportunity to hire a better manager than what they had...

If you don't want him, we'll take him (if you're willing to pay him for us...).

If someone like Maddon comes calling, you apologize to your current manager and hire Maddon. This guy has a proven track record of winning without management support or fan support. Imagine what he can do with resources. If management stays out of his way, the cubs will be very good.
