I was getting set for the new season and started a 2014 team grid. Here's the AL.

RIP Ralph Kiner

Played from 1946-55. Lead the NL in HR from 46 to 52 for the Pirates. Also the voice of the Mets for many years.

Yankees say Tanaka has #3 potential. Umm what? When did #3 starters gets $155 mil for 7 yrs?

When they play for the Yankees...
The question is, did they know that when they signed him? I get that overpaying is their "thing". But you'd think they would overpay for better than a #3. Especially when their #1 is a fossil in baseball terms.

Wow, really? That's horrible even for the Yankees.

The problem they faced is what happens if he's lights out like Darvish? Having is better than not having him. (This is coming from a Yankee hater.)

While the Yankees have said they are projecting him as a solid, consistent #3, they also added that he could end up being better than that. Hard to say for sure how he will handle the transition from Japan to the MLB.

And, it was also a factor of supply and demand. The starting pitching market was bone dry, and they kind of had to sign a pitcher.

Well let's see if the Twins can get to .500 this year..:o

I'm always optimistic in February. They should have an improved starting rotation with Nolasco and Hughes (who should benefit from Target Field). I wouldn't be surprised if they picked up Johan Santana to try and rekindle the magic. If the bullpen can continue to improve from a fairly decent year last season, our pitching should be around average.

As for offense, the Twins should see somewhat better production out of Mauer, now that he's moved to first. It will be interesting to see if Sano or Buxton can break in with the big club by the end of the year. Minnesota had what could be characterized as a slump last year in production from the middle of the lineup last year in comparison with 2012. If those guys can revert to 2012 form (or better), our offense should be half decent for playing in a pitcher's park.

All together, I do think the Twins can get to .500. It will take a lot of things going right, but I think the signs point to a solid season for Minnesota. If things do go right, I could see this season being similar to 2001 where a young Twins team proved they could be a winning team and compete for the division. I think we're probably a year away from that type of season, but I could see something along the lines of 78-82 wins. At the very least, I hope they lose fewer than 90 games this season. :)

And to make it even better, his last regular season game will be at Fenway Park.:p
