Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Joe West has lost it. I'm no White Sox fan, but holy cow. Ozzie gets run and now so does Mark Buerhle. Hawk is not happy.
Did he say "He gone!" when they got the heave ho???

He may be washed up, but I do love his home run call.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

As per Joe West's publicists, West will be in Boston this weekend for a four game series vs. K.C. (announced by his PR guy, not MLB just hours after his Chicago performance).

This is West's first time umping a Boston series since his comments on the Sox/Yanks. Its a four game series, so West will be behind the plate one of the games, and he was at first last night, so he may be behind the plate tonight.

I think we can all agree with Ozzie Guillen here when we say, collectively, "Joe West is an arsehole."

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

If he is behind the plate tonight, we're in for a treat. Matsuzaka is scheduled to pitch, and we all know what a model of efficiency that guy is. :D

No idea who is starting for when Showboat West is behind the plate but Beckett isn't exactly Swifty McQuickpitch either.

West might like that, though. It means more airtime for his ego.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I hope that scenario happens.

I believe the pitcher has 12 seconds to deliver the ball once the catcher throws it back to him before the umpire has the right to call it a "ball" before the pitch is thrown, as per the MLB rulebook.

The rulebook also stipulates that the strike zone is from the midway point between the hitter's shoulders and top of his pants to the knees, and as wide as home plate, not whatever size the umpire decides to give.

I want to see Joe West try and pull that on Dice-K, only to have Dice K swear at him in Japanese. West will have no idea, and will kick him out of the game based on Pearl Harbor, or something like that because Joe West is a cowboy/Maverick.

Twitter:

Had interview set w/Joe West tday at Fens, but now being told "all interviews have been canceled."

Shocking.
