Misericordia Adding Men's Ice Hockey for 2024-25

Coming from norwich great program but everyone knows Cam is running the day to day there. Norwich also has an assistant Steven Madison who handles all the recruiting. So please tell me where Coach Cole is getting any experience. Building a program from scratch is already hard enough. Sure he was at trine club and a few other spots but when you are the guy running the ship and you haven’t recruited or ran practices or game management at the ncaa d-3 level I just think it could be a very uphill battle. I have also read the rink is 35 minutes from the campus so let’s add that into the mix of selling kids on a startup program. I could be wrong as we don’t know the application pool but I would have to think there were better candidates who just said No. anyway best of luck and I hope I’m wrong.

Here’s what I can tell you from a Norwich perspective. Cole is very sharp and has a tremendous work ethic. He did a great job re-starting the golf program and has a large and solid incoming class.

The rink location is going to hamstring any coach, regardless of resume or experience.

Time will tell what kind of hire this turns out to be, but I think Kevin Cole will bring great ideas, a great plan, and will work very hard to get the program going.

It’s true that Ellsworth is a hands-on head coach, with just about everything in the program. It’s also true that Cole was his hand-picked choice to be his assistant and Cam did a lot to make sure he could land him.

Also, Mattson’s role has changed. He’s primarily an ops guy now working with travel, meals, etc. He does some of the touring of recruits on campus. I’m told 99% of the recruiting now runs through Cam Ellsworth himself.

Congratulations last time I checked he isn’t building the golf team. Different beast to recruit to a start up program in the sticks of PA!

Just pointing out some recruiting successes with a new program. I don't have a dog in the fight, other than I think Kevin Cole brings a lot to the table. So, aside from wishing the best for Kevin and his family, I couldn't care any less about whether or not Misericordia finds hockey success. I guess I'll check in down the road to see how it's going.

And with Steve no longer being the lead recruiter the past few years, scoring has taken a hit for sure.

Norwich only recruits eastern Canada now. Cam took a well oiled machine and slowed it down. He is trying to recreate a Lowell like hockey team and it just won’t work. Norwich used to own western Canada and now they don’t even go passed Toronto.

Steve was the Western Canada guy for sure. Notre Dame Hounds were always a great stop, but there was plenty of other stops when you go past Ontario.

maybe a change in budgeting as well??

Not from what was shared. Coaching philosophy change. Cam wants a Birds Eye view on all incoming players and doesn’t believe in watching subpar streams on western Canadian kids.

Miseracordia is not the "sticks of PA".... It's maybe 20 minutes to Wilkes-Barre from Dallas, PA.

Ever been to Wilkes barre…?

sorry… it’s the ghetto sticks with some mountains

Many, many times. I live in Plattsburgh, NY. Wilkes-Barre is a hopping city compared to where I've lived the last 40 years. What did Wilkes-Barre ever do to you?
