Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather IV: Niño or Niña, My Joints Stopped Trying

In what should be great sleeping weather, we can't open our windows because the smoke is smothering the cities again.

Wisconsin is where you'll find those kinds of experiences.

I drove to Hudson the other day and noticed one of the last homes in Minnesota before the bridge had a sign in the yard that said “free crosses” amd then indeed had a pile of crosses to take.

at first I thought, religious nutter. Then I realized this was a public service. Grab your cross before crossing the border! Maybe they could add garlic too for extra protection

My wife just told me NPR said there could be areas of 8-10"

LIKE JESUS CHRIST

It was tracking between 1-2 for the past week. 8 to 10?! I don't think the twin cities is setup for anywhere close to that kind of water.

edit: watch extreme southern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa tomorrow. Could get very spicy.

the twin cities is still tracking closer to 2-2.5" but I'm still going to be using some of my morning tomorrow to get important stuff off the basement floor.

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you today.

Anyone know when the last time tornados were as bad as they have been this year?

They're nearing a foot now in places...

Jesus. Parts of Iowa have gotten 10" of rain over the last 20 hours.

There was one storm a decade or so ago where we got 10 inches in the span of about 8 hours or less. Thankfully we never lost power, but the neighbors who did got their basements flooded quickly because the sump pumps stopped. That was the only storm I ever remember our sump pump in that house actually turning on.

We're probably at 4 inches or so over the last 2 days here in Ames, so not too bad. The rivers are going to flood, though, since they're already running high.

We are getting 2.5+ in/hr rain sustained now for 15 minutes.

but I suspect my rain gauge just can't keep up with the real rate.

Yeah, I'm 100% confident this is a "Not great. Not terrible." Moment.

my entire backyard is flooded and continuing to pool.
