Like St Petersburg in Florida where the newspaper used to be free if the sun didn't shine, I think they count even the shortest minute or two as a "sunshine" day.

IIRC, FL actually has the most days with rain in them of any state, including the PNW.

Correct. When you go south, there are nearly daily showers or storms that occur around 3:00PM for nine months of the year. It's almost like clockwork. Often times, they only last for a few minutes, sometimes up to an hour or two. That's not counting the big events that make the national news.

Atlanta is like this. It rains an hour before every night game in the summer, but only for 15 minutes. As you say, you could set your watch by it.

My first experience with this was around 1975 when we were on a family vacation in Florida. We were visiting family friends, sitting around the pool and having some snacks. Our hostess suddenly got up and started taking the food indoors, then announced that we weren't done, but she was just getting the food in out of the rain. The skies were clear and sunny. 10 minutes later it opened up and here came the rain. It actually kind of freaked me out for a minute.

I'd have assumed she had the shining, kidnapped her, and made her tell me who was gonna win in the 3rd at Santa Anita.

Decent amount of snow, but the wind never got going in the metro. Looks like this bomb was a dud.

When I visited Disney, and my aunt lived in Gainesville and joined my family, she brought an umbrella. We thought she was nuts. It was supposed to be sunny the whole week. She smirked, and sure enough, about 3-4pm EVERY FRIGGIN' DAY it was a downpour for anywhere from 10 minutes to half and hour. Then sunny again. She laughed at us, totally pulled that prank by not telling us.


As for snow, a couple inches today, now the wind is picking up. SW and S MN got hammered hard, they were closing highways left and right.

Front Range of Colorado pulls a similar trick. Moisture begins to ramp upslope against the Rocky Mountains and into the atmosphere during the daytime, then produces a nice Class III Killstorm on the Front Range right in time for the evening commute.

2015 seemingly had one of these every god**** day for a month straight, which resulted in one of the wettest springs in the history of Colorado (and unquestionably started my whole #300daysofsunshine pulpit-pounding.)

I lived in Orlando for a while; I'd set my clocks by the 3:15 pm rain.

I wish it had been nap time; that was when classes ended and mandatory homework and study time began at US Navy Nuclear Power School. We called it "the daily downpour".

My Godson took that course, but it's now in Charleston, SC.

He's now in a 688 boat somewhere.

4 inches of lake effect snow yesterday (my mom,. who is 10-15 miles further west, got a dusting). Supposed to be 50-60 the rest of the week. Do I clear it? Do I leave it? Debating.
