Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

There is horizontal snow "falling" in downtown Minneapolis right now. It's really tough to see the Mississippi from the windows on my floor - the 14th, and we're located between 3rd and 4th Streets S. We might be in the midst of a legitimate blizzard here. (It's not the accumulation totals that make a snowfall a blizzard, it's the visibility factor.)

We're driving to Mankato for the hockey game tonight :D

Forecasters were saying that the further south you drive, the less bad weather you'll see. So you got that going for you, which is nice.

Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

This was the weakest snowstorm ever. Mankato didn't get ****.

I don't think they were supposed to. North and west, yes. Here, it is still windy as hell, visibility was very limited in the late afternoon. None of the dusting we got will stick.

Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

It had a winter storm warning throughout the day.

A warning doesn't mean it's going to happen.

And a blizzard isn't just for snow: Blizzards are dangerous winter storms that are a combination of blowing snow and wind resulting in very low visibilities. While heavy snowfalls and severe cold often accompany blizzards, they are not required.

Maybe a half inch of accumulation in North. The cold snap is really the only story here.

A winter storm watch means it could happen but I thought a warning meant it was coming and we are going to die.

You're thinking of a watch. A Winter Storm Warning means it's occurring or imminent...

You should really understand the definitions of the warnings/etc before you go off. Just sayin'. ;)

Yeah, DX....

Yeah, easiest example is a tornado. If it's just a watch, you're fine. When it gets upgraded to a warning, that means there's an active cell in your area, and you need to shelter.

Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

Oh yeah, it means that too. Just make sure you're next to shelter :p
