One would think the gophersports series preview would promote the Midco TV broadcast...if the cable schedule can be trusted.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

From UND website:

Media Coverage
Live stats and a live video stream for both games will be available through UNDsports.com. Both games can be heard live on KKXL 1440-AM in the Grand Forks area, and a live audio stream of the broadcast will also be available on UNDsports.com. Additionally, the games will be televised live by Midco Sports Net and can also be viewed on the Fox College Sports networks. FCS Central will carry Thursday's game and can be viewed on DirecTV channel 608 and Dish channel 446. Friday's game will be carrried on FCS Pacific, but however, will not be available to DirecTV or Dish customers.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

I'm not a DirecTV od Dish customer...but I might get a little bent if I was, and they could give me the first game but not the second.

I think there are too many unknowns to speculate what might happen if Menefee does return to the lineup at some point. Best to leave it at that, I think.

A reliable source mentioned that the first line missed Maryanne last year when she was out (and not just being polite), as good as the first 3 are I don't think they made as good a whole as last years first 3. I can't see breaking up the second line given its success and I would not be excited to put Potomac on the third line (which has not stunk either so even more problems). While that is a "nice" problem to have I an eternally grateful I don't need to decide that.

I think it's safe to say that's not going to happen when - as a freshman - she's leading the nation in assists. My gosh who wouldn't want her on their line? ;)

If 50% of gopher womens games were televised each week...we'd be estatic

If the Gophers were a sitcom, you would see Potomak's name during the theme song, and Menefee's would roll during the closing credits. Not a knock on Menefee, but Potomak is a rare talent and I don't believe she is destined for the third line at any point in her career.

OK, move 22 & 21 down to the third line and throw Menefee on it to break her in, you wouldn't want her on the first line after everybody else has played a month ;)

As I said earlier, only if we get a year like two years ago where the coaches balance the three lines such that nobody can say from day to day which line is 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

From the little I've seen, I'd almost split up Brandt and Cameranesi before I'd split Potomak and Cameranesi. Those two can be two-thirds of a great line next year. For the present, I wouldn't touch anything.

Four of the nation's top ten scorers are Gophers, as are six of the top fifteen. A classic case of "if it ain't broke..."

yeah, let's put up the banner for 2015/16 and put our focus on next year,
while we are at it may as well sit Leveille down and start Peters except against WI

but you do have a point, the puck can only be on one stick at a time
having 3 players who can dominate play on the same line is somewhat of a waste
if one is dominating play, and the other is getting in position to score
what does the third do other than get ready to high five the other two?

fixt it for u

let's see what happens when they play a team that has a winning record

At higher levels of hockey it takes three really good players to make a great line. It's all about creating options - better options - no matter which one of the three has the puck. This means getting in the right position at the right time to increase the odds of scoring, whether that's getting open for a pass, screening the goalie, getting a tip, a rebound, etc. Right now the Gophers' first line has that going for them, in spades, plus there is no other second line that's been as productive as Pannek, Schipper and Piazza.

The big caveat: can they continue to be effective against better defenses. Not as effective, but effective enough while our third line, defense and goaltending do their part. We'll get an early glimpse of that starting tomorrow night in Grand Forks.

so last years line of 22, 21, & 14 wasn't a great line?
I'd say what makes a great line is 3 players who all bring something different, ... although they may have some things in common as well
that's one of the things that makes the Pannek-Piazza-Schipper line so good, none of them are the same, they all bring something different
I'm not seeing what the problem of having Potomak on the third line would be.
or Brandt, if ARM has his way :o

While that is true you also can't discount how well Piazza and Schipper have been playing. I think they've each taken major steps forward this season and together with Pannek they are very difficult for other teams to defend against...what a great ONE-TWO punch the Gophers have offensively.

I don't think anyone is. But they are not Cameranesi and Potomak. Which is why Pannek's performance as a sophomore is all the more outstanding.

Don't touch a thing.

As some here know I'm a huge Pannek supporter so don't get me wrong - she's a tremendous player and makes everyone she plays with better. I was just tipping my hat to Schipper and Piazza, both of whom have taken major steps forward in their games as well. Both are flying all over the ice, creating turnovers and getting their share of offensive opportunities, many of which come from hard work and Pannek's great vision. Just as important, all three are backchecking hard and playing well in the defensive zone also.

Don't touch a thing.
Based on results to date, couldn't agree more.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Much as the consensus seems to be, "leave the lines alone," I wonder if that will be possible on Friday. Has anyone heard when the Canadian Four Nations players (Potomak, UM; Krzyzaniak, UND) have to leave? I see Canada has an exhibition scheduled on Sunday, so those two playing Friday night seems doubtful.
