Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

I don't know what God you pray to, or even if you do, but there aren't enough worry beads in the world to wish & hope BC out of your way.

You're going to really upset all 6 UML fans that are pretending like their team is amazing. And those Quinnipiac fans that think college hockey was just invented 2 years ago.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

I was happy with everything but the scoreboard. Can't win them all. Come back hard tomorrow.

To me, it looked like a battle between 2 elite teams. My heart was racing for most of that game, no matter which end of the ice the puck was on.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

That was one of the better games the Gophers have played this season. I'm not nearly as irritated when they lose after putting forth that kind of effort.

Apparently the Minnesota students coming tomorrow will be in section 211. Should be interesting.

If I am going to be completely honest, Rumpel won that game for you guys. Hats off to him, he played a great game. I think the Gophers carried play a majority of that game. That said, like mentioned above, we have won a few recently that Wilcox probably stole for us as well.

Same here. Repeat that effort tomorrow night and it will be very hard to keep holding them off the scoreboard.

Goaltending is as big a part of the game as anything else and Wisconsin got some outstanding goaltending tonight, that's for sure.

Considering Wisconsin looked like a bunch of slouches through 2 periods I would say this is right. But, what about the 2 too many men on the ice penalties the refs missed on the gophers? The one on the gophers only goal and then the one with under 3 minutes to play. Could have easily been 2 PPs for UW and swung the momentum to the badgers at that time.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

The Good: Gophers seemed to play well and ultimately should have won that game. Not sure on shotcount, but they definitely lead in that category.

The Bad: The outcome. The Badgers got a late lead and, unsurprisingly, never left their zone again to try and score content to try and kill the clock.

The Ugly: Of the 15,000 some seats, 8,900 were filled. Good for you guys!

Gophers will come back tomorrow and pound (a relative term when playing the Badgers) Wisconsin. Rumpel played well and had some good luck tonight. I expect tomorrow he won't be so lucky.

All in all a dissappointing finish to an entertaining game. The win steak comes to an end, but with every end comes a new beginning. We have 9 regular season games left, 2 tournament games (because the Gophers will get a #1 seed and make it to the championship game) and 4 NCAA Tournament games to play for a total of 15 games. Time for a new streak.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

To borrow a Woog-ism, Minnesota just didn't have the talent to match up with UW's blueliners. ;)

Seriously though, it's always nice to tough out a victory in such a well played game, especially when you only give up one goal to a team that had such strong offensive possession for most of the game an could cut through your neutral zone like it was cheese that they'll totally lie about secretly loving.

I would say to stop blaming the refs when you won, but you aren't.

I mentioned in the update thread that it's a wash because the Badgers played six goalies all game. :)

Shouldn't youse guys be under your beds watching the hoppah?

There are always going to be penalties that the refs miss. I thought that first penalty that lead to Wisconsin's goal was mighty weak.

You won the game, that's what counts. I have no doubt UW will probably come out harder tomorrow, but they got thoroughly outworked tonight. Without Joel Rumpel's outstanding play, I don't even think those extra power plays would have made a difference.

I've watched UW play enough this season to know they are better offensively than they played tonight, but if you want my honest opinion I thnk if the Gophers play the way they did tonight they are going to be tough to beat. Not saying unbeatable (tonight proved that), but really tough to beat.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

Both goalies saved the teams' arses tonight.

Good game, congrats on the win. We'll see you tomorrow night.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

And I will add - If the Gophers do play as well as they did tonight and the Badgers win tomorrow, they will absolutley deserve more recognition than they have gotten this season. Can't say enough how impressed I was with Rumpel. So positionally sound.

Good start, but if you really want to fit in with the rest of the goofs you're going to have to be a little more outraged in your presentation.

Meh. It is what it is.

Just to clarify, I think Rumpel did an incredible job as well. I think both goalies should be treated to a nice steak dinner by their teammates.
