Minnesota @ Wisconsin 11/11/11

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin 11/11/11

So far, there's been very few offensive chances on either side and very little offensive zone puck possession. Lots of dump and chase, shots missing wide / being deflected out of play. UW is probably happy to have this type of game thus far as it suits them better than MN.

End of 1. 0-0

Bland game for the most part so far. Figures, since WI is playing the trap. Again.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin 11/11/11

End of the first period, still 0-0.

I'd give UW a slight edge in the play of that period due to having a bit more offensive zone control.

All in all, not a whole heck of a lot happened in the opening 20 minutes - MN's offense has been bottled up by UW's 1-2-2 approach in the neutral zone.

Yep typical Bucky and the trap in the 1st leads to a blah game so far.

UAA plays more offensively than Bucky. :)

Badgers probably had the slight edge in that period. Zengerle's line obviously created most of the chances for Wisconsin.

You guys do realize that Minnesota, and every other team in college hockey also runs a trap when a team has clear control of the puck coming out of their defensive zone right? Like you guys aren't that ignorant are you? It's simple angles, you're not going to just skate straight at a guy who has clear possession. Maybe you'd be happier if UW just let them skate freely right on by?

Lighten up Charles

UW's top line is the only source of concern for me in this game other than MN's inability (so far) to generate something resembling sustained pressure.

And yes, without the puck, all teams employ a strategy to disrupt passing and shooting lanes. The difference becomes apparent when you see how quickly UW backs off when losing possession in the offensive zone, however. They are *very* committed to getting back into the neutral zone, far more than most (more aggressive teams continue with a forecheck / puck pursuit rather than backing off to block the middle of the rink on the ensuing transition right away).

WI plays it all the time. All the time. They are not a wide-open team. It's common knowledge.

Losing Derek Lee really took another threat away as he was having a good start centering the second line earlier in the season. Can't wait to get him back.

Does anyone else outside of Wisconsin think the Badger student section is downright bad? Did they hire a choreographer for all their wacky little dances?

They're there to be seen. The general hockey knowledge of the average fan is terrible. It's an event, not a game.
