Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/30 & 1/31

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/30 & 1/31

The thinner will be going down heavily tonight in sconny land, deer and small pets beware.

The small pets were done for, either way. /kicks kittens and teaches puppies how to swim in burlap sacks after Gopher losses

Not sure if MN won or just proved they were less futile.
This BTN viewer says MN won while persevering through some significant imperfections. But it's never futile to beat an archrival.

Taking TWO icings to keep the Badgers alive in the last minute? Soft 'D' and a couple of soft goals? Undisciplined penalties, followed by bitter complaints? I can see why MN fans are frustrated with this year's Gopher team.

And yet, at the key moments, the Gophers found a way. 4 Goals in a 1 minute 40 seconds? That's greatness. Very entertaining as well. But it also suggests unrealized potential -- another source of legitimate frustration.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/30 & 1/31

Certainly helped that the Hawks were starting as the Badgers were sharting themselves.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/30 & 1/31

Nah... I actually lol'd at the 4 goals in 1:40.

That's a whole new level of suck right there.

I honestly shut down everything except FB after the 3rd WI goal. Fellow GPLer trolled me with score updates...got sucked back in. I am not proud of that fact. I've seen prettier "wins" at the bar at 2am wearing beer goggles.

Is that where the herps came from?

:D

For once the stinkin' BADger fans were right - Wilcox was a sieve. Fortunately Rumpel was a funnel to Wilcox's sieve.

I guess as bad as the Gophers have played of late I'll take any win, even an ugly one like that. At least the Gophs showed a little willingness to battle for pucks and go to the net. A couple things that have been sorely lacking since November. It'd be nice if they'd remember to play a little D along the way though. A couple stops by Wilcox would be nice too....

I tweeted this Saturday night but it's amazing how both of these teams miss guys like Keegan Meuer and Tom Serratore. Neither team has an energy guy that can go out in one shift and flip the momentum of the game. Wisconsin especially lacks his. Soleway tries to stir the pot sometimes but he's not a good enough skater to do the things guys like Meuer did.

Well said. Agree 100%.

This has me puzzled as well for the same reasons you laid out. At least Wisconsin could go with the youth factor, but even that doesn't fully explain what is going on. My best guess is that both teams personalities of players didn't meld together and they thought they are going through a "sophomore slump" of sorts. Where MN thought they could just go through the motions and win all the time.

Minnesota actually has a younger roster (age wise, not class wise) then Wisconsin. But I think Chuck/Andy hit the nail on the head. The team is missing the energy that guys like Serratore and experience on the backend that guys like Holl Parenteau brought.

Even a tDon2 (Tony Lucia), along the Serratore lines. tDon2 always brought the energy and charisma.
