Minnesota @ Wisconsin : 02/15 - 02/17

speaking of announcers, I liked Doug McLeod. Very fair and I like his style. HUGE improvement over the last couple PBP guys for Minnesota, IMO.

Not trying to start a dispute, but why is it that Minnesota's announcers need to be impartial? The broadcasts are intended for Gopher fans. You guys just watch 4 broadcasts a year on FSN. I think many Gopher fans would agree that Wally Shaver is a pretty big Gopher Homer, and he was probably the most well like Gopher PBP guy.

It's different with the Big Ten Network as they cover the whole Big Ten Hockey Conference.

I have seen you post that "at least 3-1" in attendance a few times. That is not what I saw at the game. I would have guessed 50/50. If that was the case your fans were sure quiet:)

By the way, nice of you to keep your band at home so to not get outclassed again by our wonderful band (BTW, 3 of 4 teams had their band at the game).

Wonderful? You have actually seen/heard them, right? They usually have one drummer that's decent. Other than that they got nothing. Being loud does not mean you are good. Sad that WI people really don't know these things.

I'm still laughing that they're actually reaching to the point of comparing bands now. Must really have hit rock bottom in Sconnie.

I thought he did a really good job, just a little too much hair coloring during the camera face time periods.

I grew up listening to Ray Christensen call gopher football games on 'CCO. It was long ago, but I can still hear his voice on our old car radio on fall Sat afternoons when we would drive from place to place during duck hunting. Don't know if he was a homer, but I wouldn't have cared then.

Fair and impartial are two different things to me. A fair announcer will call his team on it when they're not playing well, or give credit to the other team when they are playing well. I would expect that from a GOOD announcer - not all of them do it. I didn't say McLeod was impartial, because he isn't - and I wouldn't expect him to be, which is why I didn't comment on it. An impartial announcer treats both teams equally - something I'd expect in a national broadcast, but not a local one.

That's fair. Thanks for the clarification.

Not really. They back their band more often then you'd think, which is good but too bad it's just misguided. The only reason it's amusing is they are comparing to a band that wasn't there.

I see your point. I wasn't ripping on their love for their band. I love ours and would expect them to feel no differently about theirs. Just thought it was a reach, like you said, to bash our band when it wasn't there just because their fans no showed. Especially when it wasn't there because their school wouldn't allow it.

I agree though that the bigger picture is what matters most and that's why I couldn't care less about the lifetime record between our teams. Natties are all that matters.

Everything else is window dressing.
This is easy to say when your team hasn't won a piece of WCHA hardware since 2000. I hate losing, and not winning the MacNaughton will bother me a little longer than most people. Two of the most memorable games I've ever been to were the Wheeler game and the Schmidt game. Obviously I hope we can get number six, and it's looking promising that we get it before you get number seven. It's nice to win the WCHA trophies because otherwise UND wins them a lot of the time and everyone loses (but Xcel walls feel relief).

I agree. Other hardware absolutely does matter or else they wouldn't hand it out.
