Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Minnesota fans aren't sandbagging. I can do it with the best of them, but this just isn't the same caliber team as the last five years. They did well to reach the FF. I'd guess either Clarkson or Minnesota is perfectly capable of beating the other. If the Gophers play their best they likely win, but I'm not sure that is in their repertoire. They played pretty well versus UMD in the WCHA semi and still lost. I think Clarkson has been more consistent game in and game out, so I'd make the Golden Knights a slight favorite, like maybe 55/45. But they wear Green and it is St. Patrick's Day, so perhaps nothing else matters.

The Gophers will have to bank on obscure trivia like being undefeated in the national tournament when starting a junior or senior in goal (20-0).

While I largely agree...as the most dangerous scorer in the country (and its not really close), Dani C does change the equation some.

I agree. IMHO she is what tips the scales in Minny's favor. However I did not give Clarkson a chance in 2014 so what do I know. Just hoping this game is as entertaining and competitive as game 1.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Given the quality of the ice, I rate this game as a complete toss up.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

It really is too bad that the ice conditions are not up to par. But it is the same for both teams so I guess there is that. Clarkson wins going away 5-1...;)

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

First no sound, now no picture?

Edit: Now have both, yipee!

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Typical Minnesota multiple turnovers and somehow managed to not score with a wide open net (Schammel).

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Really worthwhile (for Clarkson) penalty by Taylor Williamson.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Tiley doesn't seem overly quick or agile but she's big and covers a lot of real estate. UM just needs to get her moving side to side a bit and opportunities should open up.

Some nice passing by CU and I like their speed.

Nice goal by CU's Bannon picking up her own rebound.

Beautiful passing by UM leading to the finish by Schipper...see point #1 above.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Clarkson 1 Minny 1 after 1.

As I thought , Clarkson's first line can match up with anyone from Minny. Lines 2 thru 4 not so sure. Minny could wear them down. Tiley was good. Too bad on the goal she got her pad on it but a 5 hole leaker and the puck was in the net. Minny's goalie a bad rebound gave Clarkson their goal. Clarkson had a couple of golden chances early but missed the net and Shelton hit the crossbar on a blast from the point.

Very competitive game so far.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

I thought the Gophers looked very nervous to start the game, but they seemed to settle down and start making plays toward the middle. From then on I thought they had the edge in play; hope that continues in the 2nd. They'll need to play real good defense because Peters doesn't look very comfortable out there.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

I'm not sure Clarkson hit the crossbar. If you mean the play I'm thinking of, the shot tipped in front, went up, and hit the bar at the back of the net, not the front. They had much better chances that they didn't convert.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

According to Dan Hamann the ice sheet in the arena was put in this week.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Seriously, I know it warm but whoever is running the zamboni doesn't know what they're doing.

Re: Minnesota vs Clarkson Semifinal 2017

Both teams' second goals were nice shots. The Gophers got kind of lost in allowing Clarkson to take the lead back, #9 in particular.
