I've had the same reaction to the renewed push. I'm happy it's happening, my only question is why it took so long. I will say this though, President Davenport is behind the hockey program. He's got a proven track record of taking middling programs/schools and pushing them up. When the conference shift happened, I had a feeling that he was going to lead the charge into a leadership role in the conference and taking the program to a higher level. It seems to have much more to do with the leadership of this President than it does anything else.
As an alumnus of MSU,M and at one-point one of the biggest MSU,M on this site I have been quietly watching the program from afar for a few years now. Its even been about 3 years since my wife and I have crossed the threshold at The Cell (much to my disappointment as I sit here and reflect). My vantage point has been cast in a touch of....... a shade of gray lets say due to my allegiances as a past student but also as a relative of a former player I often was jaded by what this program has been. I suffered thru the entire Jutting saga, and as many of the senior members of this fan-base can recall I called for his head 9 years ago. So there I sat in my ivory tower some 90 miles to north lamenting what was going on to my beloved hockey program for nealry a decade.
Fast forward....... there. I'm good now.
We are just a matter of a few weeks into the new era of Maverick Hockey and I pause for the first time and smile. I admit, I still believe coach has a few years to get this program back where Don Brose had it, but to hear that that my school is finally stepping up to a decade of promises makes me smile.
Many of you know that I'm not a big fan of our AD (love his assistant tho), and I was always luke warm on President Davenport; and all though I find it sad that our President and not our AD had to do it, I am proud to tell my friends that my school has someone who is leading a charge in college hockey.
My wife and I aren't ready for the season tickets just yet, but it is our hope to continue to hear and see the continuation of these positive things. I hope that in the coming days, months and years, some of the past fans (and even old posters here) come out and show their support.
Go Mavs (and I'll get off my little soapbox)
(P.S. I still think stateofhockey needs a wedgie, he's a darn alum and he's gone completely to the darkside)
