Minnesota State @ Tech - They Have to Lose One Eventually...Don't They?

Re: Minnesota State @ Tech - They Have to Lose One Eventually...Don't They?

I'm really looking forward to this series. Still trying to decide if I should attend one of these games. I'll only be about 90 minutes away but I have to get up at 5am the following mornings to head out to the deer stand.

90 miles away and still thinking about it? Did some gopher fan clip your testicles? Come on!

Well it cuts into quality time with my dad and like I said, have to get up early for deer hunting and my body doesn't handle lack of sleep very well anymore.

Take Dad to the game. Problem solved! Usually when I hunt(ed) the first few hours were spent dozing off and sobering up. So hey, who am I to criticize responsible grown up behavior?

If you want tickets you better get them now, otherwise you'll be standing.

It's a **** shame that these games won't be televised. If there was a squeakball matchup this important, you can bet TV would be all over it.

This is the type of game NBC Sports should be covering for college hockey. Instead we get, what a shock.... yet another golden domers Notre Dame game.

It's two small schools in a regional sport. No one else is going to care about it. That's why it's not on TV.

regardless of how small they are, it is a battle of top ten teams in the country as of today...

That's because Notre Lame and Hockey East have a TV contract with NBC Sports.

Just like how the NCHC has a deal with CBS Sports.

It's up to each conference to negotiate their own TV deals, and if the conference/network grants first right of refusal or doesn't have a TV deal conference wide, the individual teams can negotiate their own contracts (ie: Gophers with BTN/FSNorth, Denver with CBS Sports / ROOT Sports, Bemidji with Lakeland Public TV, MTU with WLUC TV 6).

The NCAA isn't like the NHL where they control the TV rights and can choose which games to air.

Special teams are going to be huge in this series. This is gonna be fun to watch, I can't wait! Mavericks are relatively healthy this weekend, which is huge.

Re: Minnesota State @ Tech - They Have to Lose One Eventually...Don't They?

Time to start throwing out the predictions...
Friday: Michigan Tech 6 - Minnesota State 4 (Round 1 - A full contact track meet up and down the ice with about 35% of the game played 5v5, 65% special teams.)
Saturday: Michigan Tech 3 - Minnesota State 2 (Round 2 - After an evening of coaches screaming about defensive responsibilities, we get a typical hard-fought WCHA game)

I was thinking something similar, except I think our forwards are able to outscore you on Friday night, and Kato wins, 6-4. On Saturday, after the coaches have had 21 hours to yell about defense, a late Kato goaltending/defensive lapse lets Tech escape with a 2-1 win.

Re: Minnesota State @ Tech - They Have to Lose One Eventually...Don't They?

I see a split. Make that I will see a split. Heading to Houghton for the weekend.

Re: Minnesota State @ Tech - They Have to Lose One Eventually...Don't They?

I'm not denying that. It's just crystal clear why it's not on tv.
Just my opinion however I'd rather watch the battle of the top ten teams than the goofs....and don't even know who they play....don't really care who their opponent is either...not a top ten team I'd bet

Re: Minnesota State @ Tech - They Have to Lose One Eventually...Don't They?

I'm also picking a split. These teams are very close in overall talent with Kato having the edge in firepower and Tech having the edge in goal and defense. Interestingly, Kato's power play ranks below Tech's. If it's a special teams battle, Tech wins. I think Tech will have the edge because the MAC will be packed and this team plays well when the crowd is loud.
