Minnesota State Mavericks 2015-2016 regular season thread

Re: Minnesota State Mavericks 2015-2016 regular season thread

Nice sweep this weekend, only allowing a goal. The BSU series at home is gigantic, and provides the Mavs an opportunity to hang another banner from the rafters at the Verizon.

I would hope we can pack the place for this weekend's games, given the stakes, and that it's the last regular season home weekend for the most accomplished class in the D1 era.

Did the league make us celebrate last night, so they could take the trophy to Tech, just in case? The whole thing seemed a bit odd, rushed, and low key

According to Shane, "It's simple: They won the championship. Saturday's game will be for a top seed."

I would assume the cup is on the way to Houghton just in case they win and we lose.

Is it too early to start worrying about next year? Tonight being senior night, we saw that we are losing Margonari, Blueger, Gervais, and I have reason to believe that there's a good chance Franklin will leave early. Who is going to score for this team next year?

They've got five commits among the top 40 scorers in the USHL right now, which should help.

Agreed, and I have a lot of faith in Coach Hastings. But boy, there's been a lot of talent in these last 2 senior classes. Looking at it right now, I'd have a hard time picking us higher than 4th next year, even though I do think Jaremko and Tuomie could be top-notch Freshmen next year

Pretty sure I saw Dave Starman after the game Saturday night. Any idea why he was in town? I know he was at UND/WMU game on Friday in Grand Forks.

Glad for the seniors that they can make a trip back to Grand Rapids! And well done, LSSU. I'm sorry we couldn't keep the "Stillwater Stonewall" in Minnesota, but I hope he can be the cornerstone for a program on the rise

Respect to the Mavericks, they are a great team. Good luck in G.R.

Well, on the last day of the "regular season" the Mavericks are playing to go to the big dance. This never happened before Mike Hastings got to Mankato, and after winning his 100th game in 4 years, we're playing for the Broadmoor trophy for the third straight season. Remarkable where this program has come, now lets get a win and hang another banner!!!

Well put! Hastings has raised our expectations- Which is a good thing! Don't get me wrong! - which has led to some disappointment with how things have gone this year. But big picture, we've won 20+ games this year, and have a chance to get into the NCAA tournament. Let's go, Mavs!

You guys looked flat tonight. Ferris played with a lot more energy. In particular, Mavericks' stick work wasn't very good. A lot of weak passes and telegraphed passes which made it easy for Ferris to disrupt things and turn them the other way. Plus, mishandling pucks, overskating pucks, fanning on a few shots, making too slow decisions on what to do with the puck. Very good season overall but a disappointing finish.

I think it had more to do with the lack of discipline and inability to capitalize on the PP.

Tough loss Mav fans. I thought you were the better team on paper. Ferris just looked like they wanted it a little more. Probably would have gotten the 15 hole in St Paul vs St Cloud next weekend in the NCAAs. Hastings has this program heading the right direction.

Bummer.. but not a total suprise. Casey Nelson signs with the Sabres. Good luck Casey and congrats on WCHA defensive player of the year!!

It was great to have him, and wishing him all the best! Thanks for your dedication and all you did for the program, Casey!

Also, got a chance to talk to his parents at a few games over the years. Terrific people, and I hope they enjoy the ride!

Big losses this year. And I still think that Winnipeg might try to get Franklin to come out early. Some guys are really going to have to step up offensively next year, or we will have problems.
