Minnesota @ Penn State: 1/12 & 1/13

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 1/12 & 1/13

Here is <a href="http://www.mnhockeycentral.com/psu-away-series-preview">My Preview</a> of this weekend's series.

Nice review msoh! Me like...:) The Gophers will need to get behind the trees on D. Penn St. is not rabid on blocking shots as much as B1G opponent Mich. St. is this season (ranked 3rd), but they're basically a top 25 team in that category. Holy Cross is ranked #1, blocking 363 shots so far in 20 games!...holy pain in the ankles.

Thanks Harley! Enjoyed yours too :)

Isn't there some hockey being played tonight?

I see nothing on USCHO's home page. The cheeseheads and uglies are playing and there's no thread. Isn't this the second biggest series of the season for these guys?

Mersch gets a hatty and Bucky beats the uglies 5-2. Eaves appears to have his BADgers on track...they're now tied with the Gophers in total pts. scored this season (190). I smell an old rivalry brewing again...;)

Impressive win by the Badgers tonight, but they have had some pretty sub-par competition lately. They've played the #36 most difficult schedule this season to the Gopher's #4 most difficult.

In other words, cupcakes are yummy :)

In all seriousness, glad to see them doing well. That rivalry is always more fun when both teams are good.

Really, really good, mnstate0fhockey. Thanks for putting all the time into doing this.

Pegula Ice Arena seems like a cool place to play. They've even got a shooting gallery...like to try that out. First B1G series on home ice for Penn St...they're excited in Hockey Valley.

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 1/12 & 1/13

When they started releasing video tours of that place, I was very, very impressed.

Cost: $102M seats 5782, the Ralph was $104M in 2001, but seats 11,500. Other than seating, wonder how they compare?

The Rapidshot and Rapidhands areas w/ stats are too cool...I'd love to try those out.:) That is one AWESOME hockey facility...very impressive.

Notre Dame has the same machines at Compton. It's things like this that were the big driver for the $10 million donation to upgrade Mariucci's facilities. Gotta stay competitive with facilities for recruiting.

Is a psu a small university? Do they not plan for hockey to be popular? What if UND 's arena held 5000?

Yost holds 6,600.

Planning to draw more than 6k in attendance for college hockey is incredibly ambitious for anyone but a very select few programs.
Better to have an arena that holds 5,500 packed full than an arena that holds 9,000-10,000 and is 30-40% empty.

Re: Minnesota @ Penn State: 1/12 & 1/13

If you pack 5,700 into a tight arena, you'll have a good atmosphere. If the program improves, you'll still make a ton of money on tickets because of supply and demand. I'm guessing the billionaire that paid for the arena didn't pull the capacity number out of thin air.

So.......thick air?

Oh brother. Think of the atmosphere then if they would have allowed only 3500 seats. And they could have got $150 per.

Anyway, I really don't care, I just thought this was supposed to be the BIGTime. I'm sure it's quite a spectacle and may even be a good hockey arena as well. I'd love to see it someday.
