Re: Minnesota @ Notre Dame:11/6 & 11/7
Not sure if this has been covered, but man the green uni's are hideous.

Question: What is it with this year's team that they can't get the puck out of their own end for such long stretches of time? .
Losing M. Reilly B Skjei and even B Marshall has really hurt the Gophers D, hard to replace that talent. It is frustrating though, our D's ability to transition and get the puck out clean has been a Gopher tradition for many years, this year so far, not so much.
Not sure if you watched the whole game but Scheirhorn saved the Gophers' butts about a half-dozen times on what looked like sure goals. He was the only reason why the Gophers had a chance at the end when ND's two penalties gave his team a chance.Watching the goals ND scored yesterday, and it's frustrating. A couple that Schierhorn probably should have saved, and that 4th was just really unaware play by both Collins and C Reilly.

If you watch tonight take a look at our players when the puck's in our zone. To me it seems that all too often they get caught standing still in open areas, as if guarding those areas instead of the players on the other team, who all too often are left free to skate and pass the puck around almost at will. And it's not just the D, it's all five guys in many cases. As a team we are simply not working hard enough in the defensive zone. And when the passing breakout isn't there, just chip the puck out off the glass or lob it out. Better than a turnover or giving it right to their D.
Totally agree. Make a play and keep possession when it's there. But be sure and not at the expense of turning it over, especially when passing through your opponents' prime scoring areas.Reducing turn-overs by chipping it off the glass is good, but if that is the fallback the majority of time it is not good.
Well that depends. A chance at what? Better than a .500 season maybe. But extremely slim chance at NCAA tournament glory, I would say. I did see some signs last night that our freshmen are starting to adjust to D1 level, especially with their decision-making. We'll see if that continues into next weekend. So you're saying there's a chance...
