Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

This and a shared disdain for all things Michigan which will surely grow with the new hockey conference.

I'm generally partial to things Michigan. It's not just because Badgers and Wolverines are in the same biological family.

I fully respect your opinion as a fellow Badger fan, but I believe you are in the minority among Minnesota and Wisconsin fans.

From now on, I'm just going to look at this in the light of UW's long tradition of producing radicals.

Just stay away from the Red Gym. :p

Brian Aaron was a much beloved official in the CCHA. Here's what (Tech coach) Mel Pearson had to say last year after a game Aaron worked:

"I'm glad I'm out of the CCHA," said Pearson, who was an assistant at Michigan from 1988-2011. "I'm going to say it. If I get fined, I don't care. It was atrocious. I'm going to call (CCHA director of officials) Steve Piotrowski. Even their coach (NMU's Walt Kyle) said to me after the game, 'You should be happy you're not in the league.' He was referring to the refereeing. It was, let's just say it was not good and I'll stop at that."

This came the week after Jeff Jackson was suspended and fined for complaining about CCHA officials. Jackson's subsequent remarks when asked were, "Nope, just looking forward to going to Hockey East"

Obviously I didn't like the officiating last night. But let me be clear in saying that IT'S NOT WHY WE LOST. My comments have nothing to do with that. I wouldn't have liked it either if the calls had gone against the Goph's early either. (ok, well-- perhaps slightly more, I admit.) But the game I wanted to see was the Badgers employng their forecheck and rolling lines. That is where we are going to be at our best. Gopher fans point out that the Goph's are an unstoppable machine 5x5 and we were better off.... Great, that may very well be accurate and we may get waxed like that. But that's the game I want to see; Badger's doing what they do best, Gopher's doing what they do best. Isn't that the game we all want to see? Not a whistlefest for a period and a half. Let 'em get out and play and may the best team win. Here's hoping.

I don't think anyone said the Gophers are an "unstoppable force" 5x5, but the Gophers have been undisputably pretty mediocre with a man advantage. All that was said is it is noteworthy that this Gopher team has been able to score as much as it has with such an ineffective power play.

This Badgers team is faster up-and-down their lineup than the past few years, but I think the Gophers have a clear advantage in team speed. I agree with you that the Badgers would be best served slowing the game down and establishing a forecheck. The Badgers did so in small stretches last night, but not enough.

I'll be at the game tonight and hope to see a Gopher's sweep, but I think the Badgers are going to bounce back strong and will really test the Gophers tonight.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

It's rare that something comes up that Wisconsin and Minnesota fans are unanimous in agreement about, but the complete debacle that was the coverage of last night's game breaks through and unites us (for a little while, at least).

Well now some of us have to re-think about whether the announcing was really that bad.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

I just hope instead of loosening a couple of bolts, Eaves pops them entirely. That would be sweet.

I mean this in the least hyperbolic way possible: It was literally that soon in the game when I started to wonder how much better the average USCHO poster could've been at calling that game compared to Gore.

Poor SOB, I wonder what he did to deserve being thrown in there like that. I'm with Hammy in that I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's good at his normal gig, and ESPN must've been angry at him (or something...) to force him into a scenario where he had to cover a sport that wasn't the one he's trained in and knowledgable about.
Other than likely only knowing the names of a third of the players. .. Ummmm wait, Gore didn't seem to know that many. .. I'd guess at least as good.

I'm thinking he's probably pretty good at tennis, but that doesn't qualify you to announce a hockey game

Fox Sports - Wisconsin is picking up the Fox Sports - Minnesota feed sans Paul Braun?

What's that about?

They did this last year too. Probably cost-cutting. FSWI ought to be programmed in its own state with its own people, but hey the game is on TV. We'll take it.

Thank God for the Blackhawks.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

ball game. One stupid, absolutely mindless pass by Mersch and it's over. You can't make mistakes like that against **** teams much less uber talented teams like Minnesota.

McCabe did it too. Both ended up in the back of the net.

Veteran leadership.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

That game was much more entertaining than last night's. I'd be saying that regardless of outcome.

Ambroz was in the right spots at the right times this weekend, that's for sure.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

What the hell was that?

That was the first time either team swept the other since February of 2009, and it came in a year when BOTH teams are (supposed to be) good at the same time? Awful. Just awful.

yep, there's that vaunted leadership etc that one poster kept harping on ("but wait those next two years when they're an upperclassmen team").

man, if this is what constitutes the highs under the Eaves regime we're in for a longer down period than I thought.
