Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

It was a hockey game, I guess. It just was a weird thing all the way around. Bizarre first period. Not much different in the 2nd. Quiet like a morgue in there for the better part of the game. I'm not sure the ESPNU play by play guy has ever actually seen a hockey game before?

Badgers are better than they showed tonight, but so are the Gopher's I'd guess. Hoping for a better game all around tomorrow.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

that game sucked. Wisconsin fumbled about on the pp and Peterson let in a couple of softies. Minnesota looked a bit off as well, I was expecting the usual skating clinic...overall just lackluster for a border battle

That was a weird game. Seemed like the five to ten minute get-a-feel-for-the-opponent phase lasted all 60.

Erik Haula gets his first NHL point with an assist tonight. Who did he assist? Dany Heatley.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

First game I've gotten to go to this year after 6 years of not missing a single home game and...meh.
Both teams looked sloppy and a little slow. Between that and the choppy flow, the first 2 periods were rather unexciting. Turned into a bit of a goaltenders dual by the end. Calling out Peterson seems pretty comical. Any time you give up nearly 50 shots and support it with 1 goal you are asking far too much from your netminder. Peterson made some real dandies as that 3rd period wore on.

I always forget how much of a whiny baby Eaves is until I see him in action again. Watching the refs refuse to go over to his bench and let him cry at them was good to see. That needs to be standard practice in hockey.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Pretending that Eaves is any more "whiny" than any other coach is special. :)

Going back to the teams MN has played this year...
He's worse than Sandelin. He's worse than Hastings. He's worse than Jeff Jackson. He's worse than York. Haven't seen much from Umile, but the little I have seen doesn't compare.

Going back to the WCHA, He's worse than Pearson. He's worse than Serratore. He's even worse than Gwozdecky, and he doesn't even get Gwozdecky's style points.

Hell, the only one I can think of who might have given him a run for his money is Corky.

Corky was the worst. A very good argument can be made for Gwoz.

Speaking of Corky, you guys are special. :)

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

I am seldom one to complain about calls --eventually they generally balance out-- but the interference call on Mersch was terrible, and rather then sucking it up and taking it, or just evening it up, this guy calls a bench minor on Eaves for complaining about the truly terrible call he just made? That's not controlling the game, that's changing the game.

Post-game Shuey was barely restraining his apoplexy, saying all Eaves said at that point was "Be consistent." (We know that's absolutely true because Shuey was a Badger and Badgers don't make stuff up.) I would have been all over them, too, at that point.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

totally agree.

quick q, is this a new b10 thing to have a handshake line at the end of each game?
From what Frank and Wally were saying as I was walking out of the arena, yes.

And it was an odd game, the Gophers seemed to dominate play in the 2nd, but couldn't get a separation goal past Peterson. Wisco came on strong in the 3rd, but Wilcox completely shut the door, making several amazing saves in the process.

Not the best effort by either team, but I'm happy with the outcome.

That wasn't even a hand check by the new bounceyball rules.

Either way, the Badgers didn't seem to be on their game and the Gophers were (just) enough on theirs. Didn't lose because of the refs - not that you're saying that.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Yeah, that was an odd, flat game all around. Ren the passing wasn't very crisp.

I hope that wasn't anyone's introduction to the game, college hockey, either of this programs or this rivalry: as it underwhelmed all expectations on each front.
