Minnesota hosts Penn State: 2/5 & 2/6

Re: Minnesota hosts Penn State: 2/5 & 2/6

Not sure more freshman in the lineup help win games late in the year. Thought 15 played pretty well on that 4th line.

Me too, although I kind of agree about Sadek. I'm of the opinion he should be in the lineup pretty much every night, and #'s 3 & 6 can fight it out.

Re: Minnesota hosts Penn State: 2/5 & 2/6

Certainly PSU played a much tougher game and deserved it, but the Gophs were missing a lot of passes and looked disconnected at times.
That was very noticeable. Too many passes that didn't connect (for various reasons) that normally would be pretty routine.

The ones that REALLY bug me are when they're coming out of the D zone up the middle and make a poor pass - like behind the intended recipient or in his skates just before the blue line - creating a quick and dangerous turnover going the other way. If you're going to break out center ice you better be sure that's not going to happen!

Re: Minnesota hosts Penn State: 2/5 & 2/6

Just because a game isn't being televised it doesn't mean there are no cameras in the rink. Not sure where you got the idea that the challenge isn't available in some games or for some teams.

Based on many of the schools not having games televised. I imagine many schools have a camera or two in the arena for purposes of taping the games for their coaching purposes, but I don't see how having a couple of random camera's placed in the rink, potentially at the end or dead center, would be able to provide coverage for an offside call or any call to be challenged sufficiently. Maybe I am just wrong about it and every rink has good enough video coverage for it to work.

It's probably fair to say not every rink would have cameras that would provide a good enough look to reverse the call this past Saturday. That was a very close offside (although it was offside and the right call was made).

That being said, there are still a lot of offsides that get missed and are not nearly as close as the one this past weekend, and referees have access to review and correct those decisions even with less-than-optimal video.

Although it's pretty rare when a goal is scored after a missed offsides. In fact offhand I don't remember a goal being reversed after a video review.

It happened about a half dozen to a dozen times last season across all D1 college games. So rare, but definitely not without precedent.

The rule was changed to allow video review/challenge for offside in the 2014 off season I believe.

EDIT: I just looked at my wording in the post you quoted, and it probably would have been better to have said "some" or "enough" instead of "a lot."
