Minnesota hosts Michigan State on Friday at 8pm on the BTN and Saturday at 7pm on FSN Plus.

The Gophers won and tied (lost the SO) the last time they played at Michigan State.

Should be a couple interesting games this weekend. I expect the ice to be tilted a bit more in the Gophers' direction being at Mariucci on the big ice.

The gophers were playing a bit more soft immediately before and during the holidays...but I sensed they started firming up against OSU. We'll see if they can play with some of the same intensity we saw this last weekend.

Yeah MSU has played some pretty tight games against us recently, they get good goaltending which can keep you around against anyone. The big ice may open it up a little, though away teams usually adjust after playing a period or so on it.

Certainly wasn't close last year. Gophers swept 5-1, 7-1

True :)

The December games were 2-2 and 3-2, that was pretty close.

Edit: In 2011-2012 we played and the games were 4-3 and 4-4, so 2 out of 3 series have been close. :)

Subscribed. For the first time in I don't know how many years, I'm going to miss a regular season home game for the Goofs. :mad:

True. And what do the 2011/2012 season games have in common with the December 2013 games? They were at Munn, not Mariucci.

If the Gophers don't win by 8 both games, might as well forfeit, season will be over...kidding.

But yeah, Gophers sweep on big ice.

I don't know, Anastos absolutely <a href="http://bit.ly/19U9d52">laid into the Spartan players</a> in his post game interview. Called out their intensity and commitment.

Between that and the #1 team target, I think we are going to see an ultra motivated Michigan State squad this weekend.

Gophers have been coming out with less than encouraging intensity to start games themselves recently.

Will be interesting to see how things play out this weekend.

Will be interesting to see how MN comes out this weekend. A couple of special weekends the past 2 weeks, playing an opponent this week without much rivalry or built-in intensity.

These are the kind of weekends you look back on at the end of the year when you start ticking off the lost points that could have gotten you to that next spot in the standings, so it's important for MN to take as many points as possible. I'm expecting MSU to come out and play at least 1 very hard-nosed game, so hopefully the Gophers come mentally prepared for that.

I think that will be the case with every team the Gophers face, at least as long as they are ranked No. 1.
