Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

While regular season shootouts have an impact it's relatively minor, if shoot-outs ever infiltrate the playoffs then there is a huge problem.

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

my thing is, if conferences are insistent on awarding an extra point and anointing a "winning" team...i'd much rather see a 4 on 4 OT format.

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

I hate shootouts, to hand out an extra point for them during conferencee play really stinks. Those pts could make a difference at the end of the year.

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

Shootouts are a part of the B1G now, so it was more of a practice for the upcoming conference season than anything else.

Somebody else made this point. Think you are spot on about the BC game shootout being practice.

Don't like them and I don't expect this to be a gopher competency either. When I heard that they were doing a shootout the other night...I though 'the gophers lose'. Sure enough...

But in the end, I think the topic has already had too much discussion.

Jerry York is pure class but that's three unnecessary injuries the gophers have taken in the last three games against BC. Haula got hacked without the puck last year and was out for a month. Interference Friday night on parenteau and he's out with a concussion. Now Matheson takes out condon after the shot. What a joke. BC needs to learn how to play out the game when they get lit up

Great win today and solid weekend against a very good BC team.

Good luck the rest of the way BC, was fun watching these teams play.

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

I have to wonder, did Wisconsin inflict any garbage time injuries on BC last weekend?

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

Those penalties made me furious. I thought we weren't playing UND for the next few years.

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

Solid performance by the Gophers today for the 6-1 win, but it was not a racehorse type game like Friday. This was a playmakers game with plenty of scoring from the D (4) and contributions from 9 different players. Some first goals of the season by Skjei and Bischoff. Nice to see Seth Ambroz score and get rewarded for his hard work around the net. Adam Wilcox was the hot goalie again between the pipes today and remains unbeaten with an outstanding game and weekend. Can't say enough about Adam Wilcox and his consistency. When he's done as a Gopher, he may go down as one of the best Gopher goalies EVAH...what a rare find.

BC had a terrible first period and went down 4-0. Gaudreau commented "that was probably our worst period all year". Credit BC who applied heavy pressure on Wilcox in the second period, who had to stand on his head and stop about 9 grade A scoring chances by a tenacious BC. BC seemed deflated in the third period, took some dumb penalties and never really got back in sync. The Gophers did a good job of shadowing Johnny Hockey and limiting him to only 2 SOG and no points.

This weekend's games were a good measuring stick for the Gophers and their first REAL test against a high octane team like BC. The Gophers clearly come away with lots of confidence as a team characterized by great speed, rare chemistry, extraordinary hockey skills and an extremely talented frosh class that's more than capable of contributing. Go Gophers! Rah! :)

Very happy to leave this series with a win and a tie. Totally expected a split. Didn't feel safe until the score was 5-1.

I'll be the first to admit that Matheson can play like a meathead out there--he's done it before. But complaining about the interference play Friday night involving Patrick Brown? Are you kidding me?

This injury talk is nonsense, I'm a gopher fan and was at the game and the Eagles played it straight up, no BS. Maybe one guy makes a bad decision on the 5:00 minute call but there was very little if any stupid stuff down the stretch. They are a good team that had an off day..it happens. Give Minnesota credit too, BC came out flat and the gophers made them pay dearly for it. Two good hockey teams that I hope are around late in the year because both programs do things the right way!

As a Maine fan I'm supposed to hate BC, they've had some punks on their teams just like we all have but they are hardly dirty. You haven't been paying attention to Jerrys teams the last 15 years or so if you think they are dirty.

Well said. The Matheson hit on Condon could be looked at as a bad decision (Condon had already shot the puck), but I don't think it was done with an intent to injure. Just a hard hockey play in the heat of the moment.

Touché. That wouldn't be worth complaining about had it not been sandwiched between the slash to haulas wrist last year (believe it was Arnold) and Matheson. I guess I was just pointing out that there is a trend of injuries to players without the puck. I know that York is a classy coach. Good luck the rest of the regular season

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

I never realized injuries happen in hockey. Learn something new every day!

Re: Minnesota hosts Boston College, 10/25 & 10/27

Was Arnold the guy who was run by a Gopher in Tampa? Perhaps that played a role because you won't find anyone who follows Hockey East that has a problem with Arnold. Matheson on the other hand...yes, he absolutely can play like a dumbass at times.
