Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

To anyone who is interested, I'm doing section previews and predictions on each of the Class A and Class AA sections this year. I'll be posting a preview, with predictions, on a different section every few days or so leading up to the season. Just finished the write-up for Section 1A (link below). Thoughts and comments welcome as always.

Has the MSHSL assigned STA to a region?

It'll be interesting to see how things shake out for the Cadets with the big schools.

It's not like they haven't played plenty of games with 2A schools in the past. It'll just be in Sections and State now where they'll be pushed much harder than in the past.

Yeah, that's where crazy stuff can happen.

You think they'll get out of the section this season?

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

LeSueur-Henderson\St Peter realigned from 1A to 2AA
Bloomington Kennedy realigned from 2AA to 2A
Rogers opted up to 5AA from 5A
St Paul Como Park and St Paul Johnson realigned from 4AA to 4A

I wonder what the reasoning Rogers has for wanting to play up....they haven't been all that competitive in Class A.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

Made some changes to Section 2A. Was told by the coach of Minnehaha Academy that they were realigned to Section 4A. There was some confusion as to whether they would be realigned to Class AA, but they weren't. Minneapolis will join Bloomington Kennedy as teams realigned to Class A from Class AA that will be placed in Section 2A. I think this is great because Kennedy and Minneapolis should be able to push Breck more consistently. Minneapolis had a lot of scoring depth last season, and even though they lost a lot of it this offseason, they should have enough returning to give Breck a run for their money this year. Still think Breck wins that section though.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

Made some changes to Section 1A to. Le Sueur-Henderson ended up not getting re-aligned to Class AA. They appealed not to be and were allowed to stay in section 1A. Winona was re-aligned to Class A, Section 1 from Class AA, Section 1. Hope my head isn't the only one spinning.

Le Sueur will have a good team this season, and Winona will be fairly decent (they graduated a lot), so my seedlings predictions changed some.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

Yeah, great question. Wonder how long that will last.

Rogers has grown a ton over the past 20 years, and was probably headed towards AA anyway. They've had some really good players go through their program; just not much depth. Same deal down the road at St. Michael-Albertville, who had to move up to AA last year, and should be pretty good in a couple years.

I do wonder if Rogers made their decision before realizing which teams were staying in 5A. That section should be a cakewalk for Spring Lake Park.
