Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

Edina goaltender gets caught carrying his glove too high. 3-2 BSM with less than 30 seconds left.

Edit: Final.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

I think I chose the right quarterfinal session to go to!

Kloos was a monster, the kids got some skill. Everyone around me at the game thought East would roll, I told them that Lakeville South is better than they think, and they were. They played and beat a pretty **** good team tonight. In the second game, I was glad to see BSM take down Edina, especially after the ***** from Edina popped his jersey right in front of the BSM bench after scoring the game tying goal. 2 very good hockey games tonight.

How long until he's to blame for all the ills in the world like Kyle Rau? :p
About 11 months. (I heard on the radio that he's expected to come in early, meaning next year, should there be an early departure *cough* Bjugstad *cough*)

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

I enjoyed the drunk guy a couple rows from me chanting "Mariucci" at the Duluth East student section as the game ended. Obnoxious and probably in poor taste, probably, but it still made me chuckle.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

Is the score that I see on mnhockeyhub.com correct? is it 0-0 between STA and Breck going into the third? (I can't watch or listen at work)

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

Breck hits the pipe with 8 minutes to go in the third... still 1-0 STA

Breck to the PP with 7 left

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

Crap. 3-2 Hermantown. It looks like that would have been a fun 3rd period to watch. Thief put up a fight late, but Hermantown broke the tie and moves on to face STA in the final again.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

One thing I can say about Thief River Falls...I wouldn't be surprised to see them build themselves into a powerhouse in class A. With the facilities that they have at their disposal, if they can maintain youth participation and keep some good coaches in the system, they will only get better. They should be able to keep their numbers up, unlike some of the other northern programs, since they have several stable employers still in the town, namely Arctic Cat and DigiKey.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

Re: STA and Breck playing up: I was having a conversation about those two and Hermantown. I'm willing to give the Hawks a bit of a pass since they; 1) are a public school; 2) have won only 1 state title and 3) their success is fairly recent. Consider, that since the AA/A split (1994), only 4 schools have won multiple A State Titles. Those are Benilde (2), Breck (4), STA (3) and Warroad (4). Compare to AA, where in that same period, 5 teams have won multiple State Titles - Holy Angels (2) Duluth East (2), Eden Prairie (2), Edina (2) and Roseau (2). So - in A, it's 3 of 4 are private (and one decided to opt up) while 4 of 5 in AA are public. Maybe the standard should be a second State Title in say, a 5 year period forces any A team to opt up the next 2 year cycle, then after that the MSHSL has to evaluate if the school prefers to play back in A. That's how I'd do it anyway...

It sure would be interesting since one of the schools made that decision on their own and one would be a public. Would Warroad have stayed AA if forced? Would Roseau have decided to not opt-up if Warroad was AA? What decisions would Breck and STA make 2 years later if forced to play-up?

Ummm, guys, I think we may be seeing one of those all-time great individual tournament performances that we'll be talking about for years....

1-0 Moorhead, early in the 3rd

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey 2011-2012

It took a helluva long time but someone has finally scored on Bitzer, Sampair buries one off of a rebound.

1-1
