Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

So if you don't get BTN2Go, is there a way to stream for free? Normally I would pay the UM fee to watch a game, but to play in a game they shouldn't be playing against a team that, at best, one will just feel relief with a victory, it is tough to consider paying for it.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

your season didn't end Nov. 28th you know.............geesh

We get posts like yours all the time here. Just to clarify, nobody here has said the seasons over. Fans are just concerned, identifying where the issues are and potential actions that can be taken. This is a message board and many of us understand hockey extremely well...'not everything is a vanilla, yeah this is great'.

Several of us saw issues with this team well over a month ago when we played the U18 team. At which point, several posters jump down our throat for saying anything that might be construed as concern. Notice those poster are very quiet now.

Excellent point on the "puck luck" factor. IMO with the parity in college hockey today, you don't get to the NCAA Championship game without a generous helping of it. Puck luck was on Merrimack's side tonight like their second goal that went off of Marshall's stick.

Fair points by both you and D2D.

This stretch of uninspired play is not good. This is not good, at all.
They weren't bad last night but I get this sense of indifference and I don't like it.

chill, it was just a bit of good-natured needling from a BC fan that was there to witness us getting our heads handed to us by your boys on our home ice. I fully expect the Gophs to be in Boston in April

Have you seen the shot charts? Majority of the shots were from the perimeter. Possession is great, don't get me wrong. It's an improvement over where they had been this season getting out-possessed at even strength, but this team is not a contending team right now and a big part of that is their commitment level and attention to detail (especially defensively).

Welcome to Merrimack hockey...they do this to everyone...

And they do it well. But if the Gophers are to be the team they have the potential to be, they should be able to spread them out more and get more bodies to the net. Gophers are not foreign to this style of play from opponents.

Great win by Merrimack. Won't take anything away from that. They absolutely deserved that win. It's just disappointing as a Gopher fan considering the expecations for this team coming into this season. It's just another loss in a game where they were favored in a season that has seen too much of that lately.

Is Fasching back and playing tonight? I assume he will rest.

I can't recall a team the Gophers have played this season that collapses the box with as much tenacity and awareness as Merrimack. This style of play can also bite you in the *** if not executed right. I'm not into moral victories, but it's very likely they'll see this again, so good lesson learned for these guys last night.

The D have to do a better job of getting pucks to the net and on net. I know that the odds of getting a shot blocked rises when the opponent collapses the box, with more bodies close together it becomes harder to get one through. But that technique makes it easier for the offense to move the puck around unimpeded, getting the box moving and taking the shot when that opening does appear with one of our guys blocking the goalie's vision. In that respect I think we could have used Fasching last night, as that's one thing he's really good at.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

P.S. The Gophers better come out ready to play tonight and not take RIT lightly. It would be very damaging to lose to those guys, and in the process get swept in your own tournament on your own ice, after almost having a month off to heel sore spots and rest up. Yes, to lose twice under these circumstances would be totally embarrassing. It just can't happen - that's the mindset they need to have, period.

If the Gophers lose tonight, I'd buy whiskey stock if I were you. Just sayin'.

So there is a little "TV" symbol next to this game on the Gopher schedule. I clicked on it but won't connect. Did someone pick up the game, or is this just here because of BTN2Go?

No clue. BTN is a joke, so this BTN to go must be an even bigger joke.

Post up up if you find a stream.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

The problem is the big picture. The team returned pretty much everyone from a near NC team...yet they're 2-5-1 in the last 8 games with losses to Merrimack, Northeastern and the U18 team. At some point, we need to get the ship turned around...its time for Lucia to read the team the riot act.

Agree.

Merrimack and Northeastern are also rans at best. How this Gopher team doesn't blow teams like that out I'll never know.

Would this Gophs team lose to bunch of Bantams if the Bantams played to their system perfectly? They should be trouncing these B grade teams no matter what they throw at them. How can it be so hard to figure out? It shouldn't take a team of NHL draft picks four months to "gel" and be able to beat inferior teams on their home ice. I'm hoping they get all the guys back, avoid any more injury's, and look like world beaters the rest of the season.
