Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

So far, the Gophers have lost five forwards, three defensemen and a goalie from last season (Fasching?). IMO Schierhorn has a good shot at replacing Wilcox. Other incoming recruits are Romanko (F), Ramsey (F), Seeler (D), Novak (F), Sheehy (F), Gates (F), and Hults (F). Most are older players with the exception of Gates (18) and Novak (18).

Questions:

1) Which upperclassmen will deliver consistent scoring? C. Reilly, Kloos, ?
2) Which players on D have any offensive potential? Bischoff, Glover, ?
3) Will Cammarata improve his game? Are Cammarata and Kloos joined at the hip for another season?
4) Will goaltending take a nosedive in performance compared to Wilcox?
5) Can this team win the B1G for the third season in a row?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

An incoming recruit that has the potential to make an immediate impact on offense for the Gophers next season is Darian Romanko (20 yo, 6'1, 195). Last season for the Minnesota Wilderness in 54 games tallied 32 goals and 27 assists. My power line next season: Romanko/Kloos/Fasching?. His coach for the last two seasons has been Gopher great Corey Millen.

He is a gifted goal scorer, so when he shoots the puck he is very effective,” said Wilderness head coach Corey Millen. “I think once he got used to the first year rigors of playing junior hockey, he really showed that he was a guy who developed into a very good junior player very quickly and hopefully if he keeps developing at the pace he his, that will lead to an opportunity to play in the NCAA. He is a great finisher and understands how to step up at the right times. His progress as a hockey player has been fun to watch."”

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

The defensive additions still need to be fully sorted out. A la Sadek and Zuhlsdorf (who would need to accelerate). Might add a low/no scholarship D late to create some depth as an alternative.

Hearing that we could add another player up front but wasn't given a lot of detail on the guy (other than background) and that he's a high caliber type. If that pans out, it would be pretty interesting.

Committed to another school?

Only so many high caliber out there for next year, depending on how you define it.

I am only repeating what I am told on this one... and the problem is you are looking at it as if it had to be a US/Canada kid.

Cool page. Think its missing a few updates: Schierhorn and I believe Mismash has committed.

Grant Mismash is headed to UND (Tweet/Mar. 31):

Proud to announce my commitment to play college hockey at the University of North Dakota. Thank you to all my friends and family #Nodak #UND

We nailed Casey Mittelstadt though...awesome recruit in the pipeline for 2017. OTB scouting report:

Mariucci should invest in something similar to THIS. If I had my druthers it'd have to be a M20A1 Super-Bazooka antitank rocket launcher to propel a Subway sandwich with extra grilled chicken breast.:p

Craig threw it together in a hurry and doesn't tend to follow the recruit stuff as much so it doesn't get updated a lot.

We'll be scratching Hults off of the list from what I'm hearing.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

We'll be scratching Hults off of the list from what I'm hearing.

Can't remember specifics. He wasn't expected to be a sure thing contributor, was he? I thought I remember hearing he was solid in most aspects of game, but not necessarily a prospective star. Is this accurate?

And what I would like to see with the list above that isn't on the GPL page is a description of type of player and expectations.

ie Guy Z will be a high draft and likely contributor from day 1, but early departure likely. Playmaker who could also score 15 goals in first year.

Player X is older bigger guy expected to stay 4 years and contribute on 3rd or 4th line.

Player Y looked like player 1 when committed, but since then USHL play has lowered expectations as he hasn't excelled as expected.

This helps set expectations for upcoming years for those of us who either don't follow as closely, or have crappy memories. (For the 2nd type person, maybe someone could re-post player descriptions monthly.)

I think that's a fair way of looking at it. More of a role player at the U with maybe some offensive upside in the long run. He'll get an increased role from that where he's going

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

Eaves is the second prediction I hit this last year. The other was the likelihood of moving a D to forward.
