Minnesota Gophers 2024-25

Nice win today against a very good team and in fact very nice weekend of significantly good hockey.

But . . . third place in the conference.

Not good enough.
MANY sighs of relief in Ridder this afternoon. Arguable also a good goal for Duluth that got waived in the third. a damn close thing.

predictions for this weekend?

Mine: Gophers in two games, one a lot damn closer than it should be. And I can work off my Sunday hangover without fear of having "Stacy's Mom" rattling in my brain.

I felt bad for the Landcows...The tunnelers tried their best to help keep the Landcows in the game last night. Many tunnelers would have have had great assists on Landcow goals but it just wasn't to be. Maybe the Landcows will do better today.

That was a quick whistle - or more accurately. a quick "intent to blow the whistle" - that wiped out what would have been the game-winner for the Gophers. More likely than not, a good goal. But 'more likely than not' loses to 'irrefutable'.

Yes, Sunday hockey.

Meh...the tunnelers got what they deserved. You stake the Landcows to a 3-0 lead, And, oh goodie for you, crawl back to within 1 goal after the second period only to give up the 4th goal to the Landcows in the first 15 seconds of the 3rd period to once again, be down by 2 goals. It's symptomatic of what's been going on for far too long with this program. SSDD.

Today is a great opportunity for the Landcows to further add to the decline of the tunnelers. It's pretty simple, Get good goaltending and Just take advantage of the continuing mistakes the tunnelers will serve up to you.

Care to elaborate?

D2D... Haven't seen you post in awhile. Good to see you post again.

Not really...All appears to be right as rain since the tunnelers prevailed today against the mighty landcows.

Dickerman should've pulled Hansen before the second. watching her body language, she was just 100% spent.

If anyone wants to play a drinking game while watching the playback of the Gopher quarterfinal series, see where you are at when Dan Harmon calls Ava Lindsey, Sadie Lindsey. You may wish for a drink with a low proof. I was at the games, but rewatched them, (yes, I am a masochist, makes it easier to accept what I see), and he may have finally, after most of the third game, caught himself, and corrected who he was referring to. I will have to check the St. Thomas series, (during the off season of course) to see how he called those games. He would have to be right 50% of the time then, correct?
The St. Thomas play-by-play guy never seem to realize that there were sisters playing against each other during those games.

The funniest one was during Sunday's game when Eva scored and he called her Sadie twice, his color commentator called her Eva, and he immediately called her Sadie one more time before finally getting it right.

What Dan does very well is avoiding dead air. I swear if I had to call games for this team, there would be long stretches where I wouldn't be able to say much more than, "WTH?"

I did think the mess on Saturday wasn't entirely of their own making. On the first goal against, Parkkonen was on her knees defending on the edge of the crease and a Mav comes flying in and decks her. I realize that you don't often see calls around the net, but that one was quite blatant. The no call on the cross check to the back of the head on Kreisz in the final minutes wasn't totally unexpected, but they didn't silence the whistles much in OT.

When watching I will add to the WTH (or F if I'm in a worse mood which I often am) with "was that". I have also done the Paul Allen "NOOOO....." quite a few times as well.

it's the inconsistency, like @robertearle pointed out, especially with Bradshaw that just really REALLY pisses me off. IDK how you can look at that hit Emma took on Saturday and not see the obvious and intentional contact. there was a camera RIGHT THERE on the broadcast. Coincidentally, Bradshaw is the only ref I have heard Dan call out by name---and self censor some cursing---on a broadcast.

Not that I mind seeing TWSNBN get crushed but that was kind of a big time chock job by them after being up 2-0.

Who was that team wearing tunneler jerseys? Was that the sinners B-squad?

i think the quote i heard from Dan on the radio broadcast was something like "This the the kind of performance we've been waiting on all year and at just the right time."

Congratulations on the win, you were the better team on the ice tonight.
Thanks!

The Gophs skated yesterday, at a tempo they don't always bring for 60 minutes. Not sure they can bring that again today, in part because of the shifts in their legs from last weekend, and more from the opponent. Do you really want to get into a track meet with the best offense in the country? Probably not.

Sorry to see Conner get hurt again; didn't look good. I was hoping to see how far they are behind UW if they had everyone, which they obviously didn't in Madison. We know that 96 has been hurt, and to me, 11 has had some sort of injury after her national team duties. It's like she left her hands in Europe. Yesterday, at least she was able to ring the pipe with authority. IMO, the biggest differences from earlier in the year have been 13 and 9 taking a few steps forward. Finally, I'm happy for 4 that she will be able to look back on her career and not have to remember the version of herself that struggled to hit an empty net from the top of the crease.

I'm kind of impressed by Clark's mental game. It can't be easy for a rookie to cover up all the burn marks when living in turnover city, but she battled through the two early ones quite well yesterday.

Did yesterday's win earn them a home game next week, or just the right to get an up-close view of the red menace lifting a trophy?
