Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

You can't keep coming out flat and expect turn it on later in the game. Eventually it is going to cost you and that is evident tonight.

4-1 Ohio State now.

Can't argue that but it is still a butt kicking by Ohio State.

It's hard to separate, because a large part of how OSU is dominating is by playing a very physical game. If you do that, and the refs go more than six consecutive periods without putting you shorthanded, it gives you a real advantage.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

All the things that are problematic for the Gophers have shown up tonight.

Defensemen forced into turnovers due to indecision or trying to do too much on their own.

Awful passing if they actually get it out of their own zone.

Poor defensive coverage by the forwards with the heavy forecheck that is being applied.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

The Gophers are playing a poor game, but that's a group of 20 year old kids having a bad day. This officiating is ****ing inexcusable.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

Take the Potomak breakaway, the shorthanded chance that just skittered through the crease in the second, and the puck that got through Brandli but didn't cross the line, and this game is a lot closer than you'd think. OSU's defense hasn't been a whole lot better than Minnesota's. They've just gotten away with it.

Just out of curiosity (because I honestly have no idea) how many of the MN natives on OSU were passed over by Frost and have something to prove? Maybe an interesting factor in this matchup?

There are some but that is the case with all the WCHA team the Gophers play.

Long time season ticket holder.

That's the worst the Gophers have looked at home during the time I have been attending.

Even during the years when Wisconsin was dominant and clearly better the Gophers always showed up and put in an effort worthy of the name on the front of the jersey.

Not so much tonight.

Ohio State? absolutely smoked them in their own building.

Great game by Ohio State.

At this point in the season the most important game is the next one. I hope the Gophers learned that tonight.

Can't argue with any of your points, MBTC. From the opening puck drop it was painfully obvious which team was better prepared and wanted it more.

And the next one is being played outside in tough conditions which could negate the Gophers speed and finesse and favor a physical, grinding style. A Buckeye sweep is a real possibility.

At this point, It really doesn't look like it will be anything but a sweep. It's not just last night's game. They have come out flat in a number of games recently.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

Wow. The odor of panic in here is overwhelming.

Look, if Potomak buries that breakaway and the officiating is merely lousy rather than unhinged, we're probably having a different conversation this morning, either, "Hey they escaped with another win," or, "Close, but not enough." No, Minnesota didn't play well last night, but they didn't look any worse last night than they did the first night in Columbus, and the second game of that series turned out okay.

Ohio State is a really good team, and they are not a good matchup for the Gophers. They play a high risk style, very physical, and if they don't pay a price for those risks, they are going to look amazing. Get a grip, folks. This team has lost two games all season, both to the same team.

I don't know if it is flat, or if they are like a big diesel engine that takes a while to get warmed up, but you're right that they are a slow-starting bunch. That seems to be true both within games and especially in the first game of the weekend. In Columbus, Duluth, Nashville, and the starts of recent series versus Yale and St. Cloud were rather sleepy. I would understand it more if this was a team that was bored with winning, but outside of Sarah P, this senior class has only hung two banners, and one of those was largely thanks to OSU. I'd be more despondent about their chances, but when I look around the country, everyone seems to have some issues.

We know that a team coached by three former Gophers is going to be motivated every time that they come to town. What can the Maroon & Gold bring to match it for a rare TV game?

What indeed...Would like to see some small adjustments try and make it so they can get the puck out of their own end and put more pressure on OSU. I know they have more effort in them than what they showed last night.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

Feet are moving better but they are still having some issues getting out of the zone. No score so far.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2019/2020 Season Thread

OMG...Stop the presses. there is a penalty against OSU!

Apparently, they did.

Both BTN Plus video and Minn internet radio streams died just after the penalty stoppage. (I came here to prove my internet connention didn't die.)
