So did the Gophers play this past weekend?
Going up against the Vikings I was impressed by the fact that the game drew 2,102 fans! And there were 2,507 who attended Saturday's game - pretty good for a non-conference series against a non-rival.Sunday's crowd seemed to spend a lot of their time following the Vikings game on their phones.
If you will forgive me I will now admit that my post was intended to be sarcasm. I have been coming here for a long time and I do not recall a single other time when a weekend series went past without any notice on this forum. I dunno, crowds are slightly larger but USCHO chatter is significantly smaller. They did, topping Yale on Saturday 6 - 3 and again on Sunday 4 - 1.
And I spent the break between the first and second periods following the Vikings game on my phone.Sunday's crowd seemed to spend a lot of their time following the Vikings game on their phones. If I remember correctly, the 10 Gopher goals were scored by 8 different players, extending the home streak without a hat trick. Yale made them work, which is a good thing.

Minnesota's defense was fine on Saturday. They gave up three goals, but two of those came with less than seven minutes to play and a four goal lead, the second after a dubious penalty.
The first period on Saturday was sloppy. They looked like they'd never seen a neutral zone trap before. That was in part due to a month layoff and in part, according to Joel Johnston, because, as a team, they'd never seen a neutral zone trap before. Once they had an intermission to regroup and get some coaching, they dismantled it.
The third line had two goals on Saturday, and a lot of very close chances on Sunday even though they didn't get it to go in. If that line continues to score regularly, this is a very scary team.
your synapses of the game is more accurate when you are not there.
So his brain is wired differently when he is in attendance?
We occasionally checked our phone for an update on the score.
I was waiting until MBTC's post count in this thread became > 1 before I would allow myself to post in it again. So did the Gophers play this past weekend?
ARM has forgotten more than he ever knew to begin with, but I can remember a couple series with UMD where the attendance exceeded this past weekend. One was in 2004 where the PPC held a silent auction on Saturday so the game was in Mariucci and Sunday was in Ridder. The other was in 2013 when "The Streak" had started to generate a buzz and non-traditional fans were starting to realize that GWH was a thing. Both series exceeded 5,000. The record for regular season nonconference is likely the inaugural game versus Augsburg (not a series, but greater than this weekend). For any nonconference, the 2013 FF had 6,800, but I get that it isn't what you meant by a nonconference series. The two game attendance total seems likely to be a record for a series which did not include Wisconsin or possibly North Dakota. My memory of the long gone old days when UMD was a championship contender (not to say that they never will be again) does not include any crowds of that size for the Dogs.
Maybe ARM knows.
I don't remember ever owning a radio that wasn't several times the size of my phone. And if you'd spent your life as a Vikings fan, you'd know that they don't justify one carrying a boom box on your shoulder like Radio Raheem in "Do the Right Thing." Occasionally sticking my head into the club room to check the score is sufficient to monitor the Purple. And I'm pretty sure Viking games are broadcast on radio.
Am I that old that 'radio' doesn't occur to others?![]()
