Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

I was suspicious about the condition of the ice yesterday, and today it's confirmed that it's pretty bad. A couple of times, the puck has been sliding flat and easy, and taken a sudden bounce. So, observations of play should keep that in mind.

The Gophers played better in the first today than they did yesterday. The goal Zumwnkle scored was really soft, a gentle backhand the borrowed through the BSU goalie. But the Beavers are also playing better than they did yesterday. Good game so far.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

I don't think either of the penalties called so far were among the ten worst infractions committed in the first two periods.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Another "trickle" goal! This time by Amy Potomak from her sister. Ho hum 4-3 final.

Bonus better dead than red hockey...End of regulation 2-2.

And OT ends in a tie...And now a worthless shootout.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Given this is getting to be more Gophers, I'm moving my reply here...

FWIW, Joel Johnson has expressed the opinion that he wanted the bye.
Joel might want the week off after flying around the continent due to his involvement in the crucial endeavor known as the Rivalry Series. It is kind of sad that Princeton's slump started around the time of Kara Morey's involvement in that affair. Kids play varsity hockey in the hope of playing hockey games. It is difficult to put a positive spin on a week of only practice, no games, at this stage of the season, unless a team is worn down or injured. I'm not aware that the Gophers are either of those.

maybe the best thing is that by getting the bye, the Badgers do not
every game has the possibility of someone getting hurt, or the favorite getting upset, or at least that's the way I'm looking at it

although I kind of wish they were playing, I had planned on them playing and what else can I do for a lousy 5 bucks?

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

That's true. Although players do get hurt in practice as well, and if they're pros, then they seem to get maimed by all sorts of kitchen implements (no word as to whether alcohol was involved).

I guess I'll tell myself that I really didn't need to watch a 6th, 7th, and possibly 8th game of the season versus the Huskies. I don't know exactly how many UM/SCSU games I've seen over the years, but they all tend to blur together after a while.

Sarah is warming up at the right time. This is a good sign and could be the difference for the Gophers on their march to the Frozen Four.
