Good move by Helgeson for not biting and dropping the gloves near the end. He isn't our best defenseman by any means, but he is a physical presence needed for the UND series.

Completely agree. I was p*ssed off when the gloves hit the ice. When I found out it was only the other goon, definitely a sigh of relief.

Doesn't look like much of a turn out at the Hobey fan voting site of Gopher fans. Bjugs, Haula and Schmidt aren't exactly tearing things up.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

I heard a rumour during one of this weekend's games for RPI that we may be playing in the Mariucci tournament next year. Have any of you heard about anything like this? Perhaps different teams?

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

That might be a good way to sneak other MN teams onto the schedule each year, since even if they do that all MN team beanpot thing it still leaves out 1 team.

Hadn't heard about a lineup yet, but I'll try to ask Lucia tonight if they've actually set this yet or not.

Unless I'm greatly mistaken, it will be a rotation with the Gophers playing at whatever team isn't in the Tourney at the X

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

That is correct. My understanding is that the team not playing in the MN Tourney will get a home series against the Gophers that season.
Ah, my understanding for the four year rotation was:
20 Big Ten Games
6 home games against MN teams
2 away games against the remaining MN team
2 (or 1) against Notre Dame (alternating home/away)
2 against BC/Northeastern (alternating home/away, opposite of ND)
2 for Mariucci Classic (RPI, etc.)
This would be too clean and easy, I guess. I personally have no major excitement for a MN tourney at the X.

I think h r correct. We will not know for sometime if the x tourney or anything else will be "fun". I bet five to ten years out will know more what happens to college hockey.

What did u hear?

Asked tDon during commercial break for the radio show tonight.... to the best of his recollection, RPI and Colgate next year, along with another team that he couldn't remember (it's been a few months since he looked at the schedule)

I was trying to figure out the NC schedule, too... it sounded like it was full, but I couldn't come up with enough games, unless the whole MN tourney thing fell apart. That's already on my list for next week.

Very interesting that it's 2 ECAC teams. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw another B1G team, possibly Wisconsin, since I'd assume Penn State and Ohio State would be busy with RMU's tournament, and obviously the two teams from MI have that little tournament called the GLI. I would assume, of course, that it is set opponents and RPI/Colgate would not play each other.

Any news yet on Haula's availability for the weekend?

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Anyone hear Potulny on 93X today? He pretty much said start to expect midweek games next year but only for the big games when they know they will still get a good crowd. Guess that means only we will be involved in every single one because none of the other schools can pack a house unless we come to town. That may take a bit longer to take effect with the MI schools, but we'll get there too.

He also said the team will play Whioux again in 2 years and there will be a series rotating home team every other year.

bleh!

It will probably be the Gopher-Michigan games and the Gopher-Sconny games.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Are you saying that about the not playing UND part or the mid-week part? Or both?

I want to play NoDak one series per year. I despise this abortion of an idea that playing during the week is acceptable. The person who thought this was a good idea should be dragged into the street, shot, burned, and buried in an unmarked grave.
