Minnesota Golden Gophers 2017-18 Season Thread

On GPL it was posted that "Jincy Dunne's little sister Josey commits to Minnesota". Now playing for the Chicago Mission U19, it's believed that she will be part of the 2020-21 incoming class.

I would have thought that OSU was a shoe in to land Josey. Surprising.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2017-18 Season Thread

Anyone know how are ticket sales are coming? I've been holding out for them to reduce the price a little, a Black Friday deal maybe? ;)

I looked earlier in the week and the sides were basically sold out, but there were still plenty of seats in the corners/ends. I was going to buy a pair, but when the extra Ticketmaster fees added more than $30 to the cost of the tickets, I passed for now. $50 for one game of exhibition hockey is testing my limits - nearly $90 is beyond what I'm willing to pay.

Thanks, I'm not willing to pay that much either. If it was the Olympics, different story obviously.

With Riley out now the Gophers have a pretty short bench. #20 seems to be heating up quite nicely, however.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2017-18 Season Thread

Really enjoyed watching Tianna Gunderson taking advantage of her opportunity. Worked her butt off and played well. Too bad she didn't convert of the scoring chances :p

Anyone know why Reilly is out? Hopefully not for long...
Also, was Robinson a heathy scratch today?

With all of the upsets yesterday it's good to see our team win, with Miss Woken leading the way offensively.

Reilly got hit with a puck during a PK. She tried to play for another 5-10 seconds and then collapsed in a heap. (Dan mentioned the knee). She did not put weight on that leg going off the ice, or apparently going to the locker room at the end of that period.

Robinson was a scratch because of the collision last week and did not make the trip.

Hopefully just a bad bruise and temporary.

Forgot about that. Again, hopefully she'll be back soon.

you can avoid the TicketMaster gouge and buy tickets at the X box office for $28 each total
which is what I did while going to the HS volleyball tournament
which is also what I did last time, day of game

On the game broadcast Frost did not seem concerned, he said Reilly would get an x-ray after they got back. He also said foot/ankle so I would guess it is a really nasty bruise but not a break. Hopefully both will be back soon.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2017-18 Season Thread

IDK-it's not like we played that bad. Baldwin's handing the Lions that goal was just a bummer.

Zumwinkle played a great game, but the fact she didn't score really takes away from that. Some of those shots we need to start going in! But Olivia Knowles put in two, and the shot in OT was great. Players need to deliver, and there you go, Oilivia Knowles did.

I don't know who was watching the stream, but the camera didn't move on the play that set up the penalty shot so you couldn't see at all what happened...haha.

So the Lions score on a gift, a PP, and a penalty shot and we barely win the game. But we did win, so there's at least that:cool:

All due respect but very close game against Lindenwood. Gophers need to be better. Growing pains.

I suppose it depends on your perspective...For Taylor Girard it was a beautiful thing.

Are some of you still confused as to why there is some criticism of #9's propensity for glaring turnovers?

I'm not confused as to why. The issue has been there for at least two years now, ever since #9 quit playing primarily with #2, and it doesn't look likely to change. They're our players, and at a certain point, we have to take the bad with the good. I think J.J. is as good a coach as there is in the game, and if he can't get her to quit turning it over in bad spots, I'm not sure that anything we say here will make much of a difference.

What do we think of the fans thus far this season? Many of them have been missing, and those who do show up mostly sit there like lumps waiting silently for a goal. Maybe they are too busy lamenting their team's latest turnover on some message board to do any cheering. It might be why the team plays better on the road. The only time they swept at home was when the youth teams were there making noise.

I don't want us to spend this season, which is bound to be challenging with the holes in the roster, mostly complaining about the team, and then return to "We're number 1," when the good times return.

Maybe I am missing it but from where I sit in the cheap seats I hear cheering, even when goals are not happening, and I have not heard an unusual amount of whining this year compared to the last decade. Frost mentioned people getting off the bandwagon during an interview on the men's broadcast but I am just not catching that either. Early, all the people I talk to or hear talking knew this season was going to be a challenge and nothing has changed that opinion. I still hear a lot of positive comments and good thoughts and I don't hear anyone jumping ship.

maybe you should replay last years semi final and watch #2 get stripped of the puck as she skates out of the zone and the Clarkson player fires it into the net, I believe it was the winning goal

I agree that the D looked like a Chineze fire drill the first couple weekends, and were as effective, what did people expect when there are two freshmen, and a sophomore who didn't play much? it wasn't just the blueliners .... IMO they are playing much better now, but mistakes are going to happen, and *gasp* sometimes an opposing player is going to make a good play.

Really, there has been a drop off in fans since the Streak ended. I was VERY surprised there wasn't an increase after 2015, I guess it shows that there is a limit to how many sporting events people will go to. And if given a choice to drag your kids down to Ridder with the way people drive there, and find parking, ... I'm sure some people decide to stay home or maybe go to their HS game.

I am thankful the coaches have stuck with it and kept Skarzynski at F, it would have been easy to return her to D. She adds energy and more importantly scoring which was sorely missed last year. 6 assists this weekend, as long as Robinson gets healthy the Gopher D will be fine, good enough to make the FF and possibly win it.

So lack of cheering and complaining on a message board is the reason why the Gophers have a losing record at home? Who knew? ;)
You have to admit that #9 doesn't do turnovers half baked...She goes all out and makes them quite spectacular which, to me, is worth commenting on. :)

Isn't this specifically a Minnesota sports fan vibe and in general, for most sports fans, how they roll as front runners?
