I know they have awesome recruits coming in Especially Hannah Brandt, it does not surprise me with 5 points her 1st 2 games!! Go Gophers.... its going to be fun to watch!!
Five goals...and a four helpers, for 9 pts. I think. :)

Amanda Kessel, Megan Bozek, Noora Räty!!! We are not worthy. The Gophers got another great game from the veteran leadership.

The season debut of the previously unseen other two Canadians shows just how important they are going to be to this year's team. As good as the Gophers looked against Colgate, they looked a lot better with Davis and Terry out there.

This could be fun.

Some pretty goals tonight eh? Menefee, Bozek, Kortum, Kessel and Brandt. All very nice.

Holy moly, Hannah Brandt is strong. Her goal came on a face off where she just collected the puck, dropped her shoulder and went to the net, but that wasn't the play that most impressed me. That one was the faceoff in the same location in which the St. Cloud center tied up her stick so she just stepped on the puck and bulled her way out of the circle like that. It didn't result in a score, but it could have.

Especially Kortum's and Kessel's second. Kortum just willed her way to that goal, and the tic-tac-toe passing on Kessel's was a thing of beauty.

Best goal of the night was Kessel's second. Very pretty passing play between her, Menefee and Brandt. Looking very solid in all three zones so far.

It's hard to really judge the team's performance when things are this lopsided, but the only negative I take away from tonight is that, based upon an admittedly small sample size, Kelly Terry's shot appears to remain missing in action. There were two chances she would have buried two years ago that missed badly, though Davis stuck one of them in a second later. She looked to me like she was getting frustrated like she did in the first half of last season and her penalty was pretty dumb. Just one game, though, so who knows.

Any kid who works as hard as #10 does game in and game out can play on my team anytime. I'm glad she's a Gopher.

I agree with this. In no way do I consider her a negative. Quite the opposite. However, she set a very high standard as a freshman, so I simultaneously love watching her play and get kind of nostalgic remembering her as a big goal scorer.

I guess one of the things I want to emphasize is that Terry is a valuable player even if she isn't putting the puck in the net. So, while my first choice is that the touch comes back to her, my second is that she stop getting frustrated that the goals aren't coming. She was *fabulous* during the second half of last year despite not putting the puck in the net very much. My worry is that she lets that start bugging her again, because that reduces her to just being a good player I like watching instead of being someone who can dominate the game without scoring.

I will say that I'm not sure how long Frost can stick with Noora as the starting goalie since she has the lowest career save percentage of anyone on the roster.

Wow, tough crowd!

That is one of the most accurate things ever posted, and I believe most UM fans share that opinion. But sometimes, the positives need to be stated as well. In trying to analyze, we are all guilty of at times criticizing. It isn't an easy game, although they can sure make it look that way.

I second that as well. That's a key to her value, because most of the second half she was anchoring the third line. Some would have looked at it as a demotion and sulked. Terry skated the same as she always does, as hard back as she does up, seemingly never getting tired, and helped make the third a line that we never really had to worry about, no matter what line they were matched up against. The coaches must love her, because they know what they'll get from her every game. If she keeps the puck alive until #9 or #15 or somebody else puts it away, it all looks good on the scoreboard. Even scorers go through those stretches where the puck doesn't go in. Bona doesn't have a goal yet, despite some glorious chances, but if you hit enough pipes and have enough looks, the goals will eventually come. Sixty minutes doesn't qualify as a drought.

Oct. 16, 2010 is the last time a goal was scored against a Gophers' goalie other than Noora. I know they haven't played that many minutes, but that is still a crazy stat.

Pretty disappointing night for her after last weekend with only 1 goal and 3 assists on this night. ;)

ROY anyone?

Lee Stecklein's centering setup pass and Meghan Lorence cashing in will definitely be on the 2012-13 highlight reel!
