Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Moved from the game score thread:

I think we've looked worse playing D in our own zone in this one than at any point of the season. Luckily, there hasn't been a lot of play in our end. Not Noora's best game either, as she's given a couple of rebounds that are atypical for her.

This game kind of reminds me of the first game up in St. Cloud last year, the one in which the Huskies scored in the first minute. A lot of sloppy play by both teams with the Gophers winning in a blowout by thinking all offense.

Although the announcer just mentioned that UNH has only 7 shots on goal, and they're in the 3rd period. Sounds like pretty good defense to me.

It's more that UNH just isn't able to get a hold of the puck very much. We've also been better here in the third.

When UNH had possession of the puck in the Minnesota zone, I didn't like the way the Goph's looked through the first two periods. Too many people watching the puck and reaching for it, and I'm not used to seeing that this year. Luckily, the Wildcats seldom had the puck in the offensive zone.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

The freshman class seems to be having some issues.
Let's hope they're up to speed and back soon. Also hoping those issues don't expand to include anyone else.

Overall though...Brausen, Lorence, Terry, Bona & Steck...good to see them score. #10 is impressing me as one of the best two way players in GWH history.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

I thought the video was pretty good. The commentary -- not so much. I think that was the first time I've ever seen a team score and neither of the announcers ever even notice. Too busy saying what a great job UNH was doing on the kill when the Gophers never put a PP unit out for the third period. Sigh.

And I know she does a lot more for the team and her "O" isn't that vital, but the law of averages would say that #9 would have more than one assist by now.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

You're trying to get ARM and I back into it, aren't you?
Did we argue about Terry as well? I've forgotten. After a 10-2 win, I don't plan to argue with anybody. :)

It's very important that Brandt doesn't have those issues; I'd expect that she won't. Stecklein doesn't seem like the type one would worry about academically either. Congrats to Lee on her first goal as a Gopher!

Stecklein will never give Minnesota any problems. She is solid all the way around. I predict she will captain Minnesota in the future. Congrats on her first goal. Can't wait to see more!

Terry's great speed shows up again on that short handed goal. I agree with brookyone, great player.

"Academic issues" and "Breaking team rules"?

I don't know anything about the team rules but I find myself thinking that this is coach speak for failing to attend a class.

Just back from the game and reception....first off you Minne fans are spoiled by that team....they are fantastic...no one carries the puck more than 1 stride...everyone plays thru the puck, and then dishes to the open player...all four lines play the same and force the offense....soft hands all around...if I wasn't UNH thru and thru I might enjoy watching the game....kidding. Honestly though if we didn't give you 5 or 6 goals,( our goaltending was more then horrendous), it was a close game and for a team 1/3 freshman to stay with the best team in the land, I feel okay....Raty gave up 2 goals on 7 shots which I don't fault her on as the defense just backed in on her.....at the reception which I was glad to see both team and parents of Minnesota, ( since many of the girls have played together elsewhere), one of the Minne players was very gracious and thanked me for the reception.....it was great seeing the comraderie of hockey players getting together even after losing a 10-2 game....hopefully tomorrow UNH will show up with the confidence and poise they lacked a bit today....but keep in mind they still will be playing the best team in the land.....

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013

Just an FYI... though the stats were dominated by the Brandt-Kessel-Lorence line today, Megan Bozek quietly had 2 assists, moving her into a tie with Anne Schleper for 2nd on the all-time list of scoring by a Gopher defenseman.

(Bozek was initially credited with 3 assists, but a scoring change took one of those away.)

Bozek has (at absolute minimum) 21 games to get 21 points to move into sole possession of 1st place on that list. Winny Brodt currently leads the list with 134 points.

Saw Winny at the Edina/BSM game last night! She doesn't miss many of the big games!

Strange craving for a whoopie pie as I watch the game...

Missed the intros...I see Noora is getting a rest today.

I had a feeling that might happen, figuring it would be a good time to give Miss Leveille some work.
