Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

This coming from a U-M AND MSU reject. The bitterness of knowing no one cares about your MAC school is glorious.

How's second to last treating you? How's complete and total hockey irrelevance?

Only thing that could be better than scUM's current performance would have it take place in the CCHA.

Did anyone go to the charity game last Saturday?

I'm seeing pictures and am pretty sad- it was mid-October when we saw Scott Matzka walking out at Yost- last week, he's in a wheelchair. The ALS is attacking him very quickly.... :(

ALS is no joke....

That's so sad. I recall him being a decent depth forward at UM. It seems like it hasn't been that long since he was playing minor league hockey. What an awful, cruel disease. Wishing him the best in a tough, tough fight.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

Yeah. YOU'RE welcome. I see a sweep coming up for UM.

Fyp. I wouldn't be so sure, we really suck this year...

I'm guessing a split. We seem to suck on Friday this year but that's our home game this weekend.

Hooray, it's the week we play State. We might win a game!

Is it softball season yet?

On that note, one should be aware that Zach Nagelvoort is conducting a book drive- http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/011717aac.html

In a short e-mail exchange- he told me that there's a collection area at Yost- so it will be there this Friday up to the Feb 4 game against OSU.

Also- he's hoping to get career oriented non-fiction, as fiction is easy to get. So if you have any old texts for work that you are no longer using...

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

Just noticed on MGOBLUE that the face off Friday is at 6:30pm instead of 7:30.

IF you are coming... ;)

I love weird start times such that all those people can watch on tv. Especially awful on early Friday starts where Yost is empty.

Keep your eye on the scheduled start time, 'cause there's a few more not 7:30 games coming up.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

I would love for MSU and UM to split the rest of the year so they help keep both Red and TA around another season.

Never in my life though I'd see empty seats at Yost, nevertheless for a MSU game.

Keep up the good work, Red.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

Well, we are not in last place, at least.

All I got to see were the last 4 shots in the shootout- with just the one going in.

I'll have to watch the replay to see how desperate they looked in the game.

edit- so watching the replay- Nagelvoort made some good saves at one point, but MSU's last goal was on the PP- and for some reason, our PK has gotten into a thin little shell. It's almost as if they are re-learning stuff really slowly.

I wouldn't mind MSU to losing out, and getting a rid of TA. Short term pain for long term gain.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

Good news! We didn't lose hockey games last weekend. We didn't play any games either.

aOSU comes to town this weekend. Friday's game is at 8 pm.
I'm not used to hoping for a split and feeling I'm being optimistic. That's where I am with this year's team though.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season

We will miss Friday due to other commitments.

But it will be interesting to see if there has been any progress or changes. Given how well they played at the beginning of the season (relative to now), it's odd.

Kile and Cutler got sat and the team responded for about 40 minutes. Good thing OSU didn't show up at the same time. Third period was a disaster and FTR Joshua is a doooooshbg.

Saw the replay- wow, those first two goals in the third were weak.

So if we can just keep getting more than 40 min out of them- well, maybe we can pull out of the brink. I don't see an at large bid, but we will see.

OSU was awful the first two periods, I think they had 15 SOG thru two and looked like they just came in from five timezones. I saw more junp and "want" from our guys, winning faceoffs, battles etc. but they are still prone to defensive zone lapses and gaffes. OSU came out in the 3rd like the team I though they were and put us back on our heels. The first two goals in the 3rd were brutal and LaVigne was lucky to survive it.

Of course some OSU fans are woofing about the play where the puck bounced off the glass onto his back and Boka came in and swiped it off his back. I think the official blew it dead before that, but it could have been called a penalty depending on how the gong show saw it. (This weekend we are graced with Aaron and Kronforst, the Big's version of Sergott back in CCHA days.) They didn't call a potential penalty shot on a Lockwood breakaway in the 2nd period after we were up 5-1- and OSU scored early in the third on that same penalty kill. Red was jawing with Kronforst about it on his way to the locker room between 2nd and 3rd periods.

One thing is for sure, both teams benefited on the PP. Gotta stay out of the box.

Michigan was gassed the last 6 minutes, but hung on. Joshua took a penalty in the last 1:30 and then jawed too much and got run. Hope he keeps it up, the refs have their rabbit ears on.
