Re: Michigan Wolverines 2016-2017 Season
The worst kind of Wolverine, the out-of-state kid who was hoping to end up at Cal Tech or Chicago or Princeton but had to settle for UofM. Usually, that just manifests itself in a dysfunctional lifelong bout of academic overcompensation and smugness. You certainly saw that come through in Kaczynski's early academic career at Berkeley where, despite a rather middling reputation and floundering career, he became utterly convinced of his own brilliance and intellectual superiority. And in the grandest of Michigan Man traditions, Teddy chose not to accept his place in the academic food chain and slough off to some Cal State campus to establish himself as the insufferably pompous member of the mathematics faculty but rather to shoot for the stars, to publish his manifesto and proclaim his brilliance for all the world to marvel upon.
Kaczynski, while deeply disturbed, was absolutely brilliant. He was overqualified for sparty. The guy went to Harvard for undergrad, but yes then did come to Michigan for Grad. School.
