Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

I don't believe anyone else has not yet started this with only 39 days until the puck drops in Yost so here goes.

Is there a younger team in Div. 1 hockey than our Wolverines?

There are only 4 Seniors (2 D, 2 F), 4 Juniors (G, 3 F) 9 Sophomores (G, 3 D, 5 F) and 8 Freshmen (4 D, 4 F) on the team!

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Some of us are a little supersticious.

Although, the last time I started one, we did make the frozen four....

Not so worried about the age- I'm far more concered about their chemistry. The last two seasons were pretty much ruined due to locker room issues. They had the talent in spaded, but for reasons, didn't feel the need to actually use it more often than not.

If Copp can do what Porter did, we will do well. Very well.

Szuma quietly has left the program, so that was another senior, even if he was a reserve that would not have seen the ice short of injury. The other one is the third string goaltender Luke Dwyer, so that is 5 seniors. Spence Hyman also left and returned to the Toronto area and is attending Ryerson.

As I said in the original post there are only 4 Seniors ON the team regardless of how many there could/should have been.

THAT is why I did not include Dwyer since the only time we would have seen him would have been the exhibition games and "Senior Night".

UW will be quite young. Its hard to believe that they'll be this young tho.

FYI......UW had 6 Srs....2 starter quality goalies (Rumpel/Petersen), a top 3 F (Labate), a 2nd pair D (Drake), 2 3rd/4th line F's (Navin/Paape). UW has only 3 Jr, 2 of their best D (Wittchow/Schultz) and the 3rd string goalie (Miller). UW has 6 true Fr and 2 RS Fr, so that's 8 players with 0 college game experience.

Take a look at Boston University. BU will be bringing in 10 freshmen to go along with eight sophomores, six juniors and only two seniors. There is also one third string grad student goalie. Coach Quinn undertook a housecleaning of the remnants of Jack Parker's last recruits. In fairness, however, superstud frosh Jack Eichel was recruited by Parker. They may not quite crash this year's FF in Boston but they are loading up with some serious talent in the next few years.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Last season Denver and Miami only had 2 seniors who had ever played a game. DU had 11 incoming freshmen, don't know about Miami.

UNH is very similar to your numbers:
4 Seniors
8 Jrs
4 Sophomores
10 Freshmen (which we are very excited about!)

UNH loses a talented top high scoring line to graduation in addition to key dman TvR heading to the pro's (plus graduation of two other great Dmen) Hoping for the best but still some excellent balance in the team regardless. We'll see!

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

I can't wait to see Zach Werenski (Freshman D) play and see if he is "All that".

The coaching staff approached him in the spring to take the remainder of his high school classes over the summer and enroll for the fall semester. He did and is on campus.

The kid just turned 17 on July 19 and will not be able to drink a legal beer until after his college eligibility runs out!

What? No raging comment about Hyman?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

The tickets should be arriving soon. The first (home) game is only 32 days off - the annual exhibition against the NTDP U-18.

I haven't seen this before - they open with a game that counts on Oct. 4 in Big Rapids followed by the traditional 2 exhibitions that normally open the season.

Also the NTDP game usually comes later in the season.

ICYMI - Adam Janecyk will be coaching next year.

Janecyk added to coaching staff at Nichols
USCHO Staff Report • Sept. 4, 2014

Nichols announced Wednesday the addition of former Michigan goaltender Adam Janecyk to the men’s coaching staff.

Janecyk appeared in 18 games over parts of four seasons with the Wolverines.

“We are extremely lucky to have Adam join our staff this season,” said Nichols head coach Kevin Swallow in a statement. “He had a tremendous playing career and played for one of the greatest hockey college hockey coaches of all time, Red Berenson.”

With the Bison, Janecyk will assist with recruiting, as well as coaching the defense and the goaltenders.

Well, now that football season is over  let's talk hockey.

That is different. I wonder how difficult it will be to get tickets for the game at Ferris. From the looks of their website (and the price of the tickets), it's the biggest game on their calendar this season.

wT- You know very well that wherever Michigan goes it is the biggest game of the season. No shock there...

Except for Minnesota. And Wisconsin. And Boston College. And Boston University. And Michigan Tech this year, for that matter.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

I disagree, everyone HATES Michigan. There is no denying that.

This statement is correct. But that doesn't make you the biggest game on the schedule. The Gophers hate North Dakota more. The Badgers hate Minnesota more. BC and BU hate each other more. And Tech certainly hates NMU more. Those are the biggest games on their schedule, not Michigan.

At Michigan State, Ohio State, Ferris - no question. But not everywhere.
