Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

The word from reporters is that Racine has not lost his job, and once he is healthy, he will be back in net. Figure next weekend at UNO.

Steve "should" start Saturday night. He's fully healthy now and Zach, who definitely wasn't liable for Friday nights loss, looks like he needs a day off (after a bye-week so that's odd). Zach played OK Friday night at the "Children of the Corn-cob" but he didn't steal anything (credit to streaker for reminding me of that name).

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Tough loss- it lookes like Red's adjustments may have helped the offense a little, but spending that much time on the penalty kill really stopped all of that. It was great to see us get the lead going into the second break, but it looked like the team was tired in the thrid period, based on UNO's speed.

Their third goal was pretty (I missed the tying goal). Hard to see the D just get burned by that easily, but it happened. Zach then seemed to commit early, which left a nice open net.

Oh, well. I'm with Red in thinking that this team ins't quite a #2 team in the nation. The B1G as a whole looks not so strong, too....

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

We've had a lot of 1 goal games and I think we are overrated. Most of the games so far this season could have gone either way.

The penalty box parade in the 2nd didn't help, but it was good to see them get past that adversity and take the lead by the end of the 2nd.

Here's hoping we can come away with a split for the weekend.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Thought that was a pretty evenly matched game last night. I fully expect the Wolverines to come back strong this evening and earn the split - possibly in an ugly blowout. Far and above the best defensive performance the Mavs have played this season. I wouldn't expect that to happen again tonight. Minus the over-generalizing insults to an entire fan base, I happen to like the Michigan following. The history, the championships, the tradition - your fan base has earned the right to have pride. I hope if any of you Wolverines make it down to Omaha or are down here this weekend, that you feel treated well by the local fans. We try to pride ourselves on that - though there are always a few jackballs that ruin it. Hoping for another good game tonight. Good luck Wolverines.

Minnesota and Michigan are the only teams that have done anything. Wisconsin has been brutal, Michigan state is bad and Ohio state is getting exactly what they deserve for firing osiecki

So the games the two teams played vs. BC don't mean anything? UML, BU, and Notred Dame are not good teams? While I don't think Michgian is a genuine #2 team, let's at least be realistic that the schedules for Michigan Minnesota are not pushovers.

Oh that's exactly my point.. Maybe I did a bad job of wording it. Minnesota and Michigan have been good, the rest of the conference has not been good early on. It's good for minnesota and Michigan that they have beat some good non conference teams because big ten conference play isn't going to help their strength of schedules this year

Ok, I must have read it badly.

Still, while wins against BU and BC was great, the holes in the team keep it out of the top 2. Thankfully, the holes have been filled enough times this season that one can be pretty optimistic that we will have a very good season. Speed and effort are there, just some odd defensive plays, and still keep hitting the goalie or missing the net.

Your butt kissing means nothing to them. You seem to be oblivious to how our fans are treated in yost and how their fans have made a habit of bringing decks of UNO cards to our games and throwing the cards in the air when they score. That said, most visiting fans get treated very well. Every visiting fan deserves to be treated like a human being. Their fan base hasn't earned any more right to pride than anyone else. Even fans of Alab. Huntsville deserve respect if their willing to support their team.

So did anyone see the game? How did Racine look?

So did anyone see the game? How did Racine look?

Listened to the game... the team played the same as Friday, still sloppy defensively. The NCHC officiating appeared to be a little whistle happy all weekend. Didn't allow for much flow. The good news... we scored 3 PPG's this weekend and scored a SHG. The bad, gave up a PPG and a goal right after a PP expired. The GWG on Friday was on 4x4, so the officials had a big hand in the games. Now whether we deserved all of the calls, can't judge. By Red's reaction on Friday, no.

As far as the goaltending... Nagelvoort was solid, but left on an island too much. Not much help in front of him. Racine stopped 40 shots, some real good 3rd period saves, but gave up a couple of soft goals. They boys were on their heels in the 3rd period, gave up 23 shots. That's not going to win many games unless the goaltending stands up.

Give UNO credit, they don't quit and have good size and speed. They served up Saturday's game on a platter, though- most of our scoring was due to their turnovers.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Racine was strong overall. He did have a tendency throughout the night to give up some long rebounds.

As for the whistles, sadly that's the way its been all year. Seems the league wants things called pretty tight, in fact a couple of weeks ago the Director of Officiating was in town and after a 21 penalty Friday night his comments for the crew centered mostly on three penalties he saw that they didn't call. At this rate NCHC teams will be replacing the penalty doors every couple homestands.

Welcome to the board!

Solid comments. Re: Racine- long rebounds have been his biggest problem, controlling them overall. He looks miles above what he did last season, stronger, focused more confident. Michigan's issues are and will continue to be twofold: defensive depth and scoring. A couple of the guys that are suppose to be leading are and a couple of the guys that were being counted on for scoring depth aren't.

I was going to start a thread called " Does Michigan's offense need Niagara", but thought better of it.
