Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Give Tech credit too, the gameplan was brilliant, non stop three man pressure on the puck deep- especially after Lohan went down (btw- it doesn't sound good)

It looked bad when he went off.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

Stubborn isn't he? ;)

Oh, and on Kile's penalty.... how far is a goaltender allowed to come out of the crease to impede a forward's attempt at playing the puck? It was borderline at best. He was several strides out of the blue. Crashing the crease is one thing, but being halfway to the corner is another.

Unless there has been a rule change I haven't heard of the answer is "As far as he wants." That has long been a source of frustration with me. As far as I am concerned if the goalie wants the protections of the position he should stay in the crease. IMHO when he is outside the crease he is just another skater. But I don't wear a striped shirt.

I REALLY liked the way the announcer introduced the Michigan goalie before the Saturday game. Does anyone know how to contact him and let him know? ;-)

Ok, before I am called out I will say it myself. I was wrong on Nagelvoort, I think that first game or two was just nerves. He has now settled down and looks like a wall in goal. Poor Racine, lost his job because of an "injury". streaker, was it a real injury or just a plan by Coach Berenson to get Zach in the game so that he could take over?

Mind you, I did state that I wasn't a credible evaluator of goalies...

The word from reporters is that Racine has not lost his job, and once he is healthy, he will be back in net. Figure next weekend at UNO.

Yes, it was a REAL injury. I saw it when it happened at UNH.

There are many opinions that are wrong, by the way, no one is going to call anybody out on it unless you harp on it. I actually thought this was a team in transition that would have trouble making the NCAA tourney. Why? because of the defense and questions in goal. Now, it is still early yet, but our defense has been pretty solid and goaltending superb. Let's just hope we don't suffer more long term injuries, especially on the blue line where the depth is thin.

Berenson is a smart coach that makes his players earn their starts in practice and during games. He doesn't penalize players for getting hurt. Racine will have to prove again that he is capable of playing as well as Nagelvoort, and will get his chance when healthy. It's a tough call, but it is a long season. Nagelvoort was given the B1G Ten's 2nd star- the fourth straight week a Wolverine has earned a star. It's a nice problem to have. Come the 2nd half of the season, he'll ride one of those guys into the playoffs.

That's what I figured as well too but there really isn't a reason to take Nagelvoort off of the ice.

As the Babcock to Michigan rumors are flying on MGoBlog, I have been told by my brother who works in the athletic department that MB is very interested in the job and has met with Dave Brandon about it.

Babcock has a daughter at Michigan which gives him a reason to be on campus hobknobbing with Brandon. He was a frequent visitor to Yost last season. Berenson is not near a decision to leave and is invigorated by this season's start. The top candidate IMO is still the guy coaching the visiting team that was in town last weekend.

MgoBlog is a nice site, but hardly as reliable or responsible as Spath's site.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2013-14 Season Thread: The B1G Time

MgoBlog is a nice site, but hardly as reliable or responsible as Spath's site.

It's an open posting board that has become a big dog, thus attracting much traffic. Naturally random message board stuff will prove to be of questionable accuracy, as I said there. Just because some random, non-regular commenter posts something on a message board doesn't mean it has any basis in reality. I mean, just look at the garbage I post.

I don't see any realistic scenario where Babcock leaves the League, where he is considered one of the top coaches, to work for less money in small arenas for not-that-many-fewer hours. I suspect any rumors surrounding him are just "game of telephone" rumors where somebody says, "wow, that's Mike Babcock... I wonder if he's interested in coaching here?" and people run with it. The rumors weren't exactly "flying on mgoblog" so much as a thread came up and one or two people posted unfounded theories about it.

Mel hasn't made Tech a conference power or anything, but he has produced some good games there and won a GLI; I'm not sure anybody could really build a consistent NCAA tournament team there anymore. It helps his case that there aren't many obvious choices out there that are natural fits. My theory is that Red encouraged him to take the job for the sake of his career, hinting that it would give him a better shot at replacing Red than being the next-man-up assistant.

By the way, I'm really grateful that the hockey team is good right now, because... er...

Not again! His daughter goes to The U., it's really the only time he gets to see her (at Yost).

Okay Michigan fans... grab your overalls, it's "Children of the Corn" week. Let's see what we are made of since our last visit to Aromaha.

Lolz. Since not being in our conference have the Nomaha fans forgotten their hatred of us? Or are they all to busy posting on their message board and leaving the differing opinions of USCHO behind them?

The Babcock rumors came up at our tailgate Saturday. The response by one individual was, "that rumor comes up on occassion. Why would he leave NHL where he is a top coach for college? Next time you hear someone spread that rumor, kick them in the shins". Which then became a joke all night. Along with Sparty losing to Tech (I was following the hockey score). The running jokes of the night were Tom Anastos, better commissioner or better coach? And Babcock coming to Michigan.

With nothing to do this weekend, I'm somewhat considering driving to Omaha. I haven't been to a game there in about 10 years.

Now, wT, you know that those fans are like elephants. They're still ragging about the call in OT two years ago as some battle cry for this weekend. For the most part, the wild bovine fans have abandoned USCHO for either Mavpuck or Mavmania where they can spin their revisionist stories and roll around in their feverish hatred for Michigoon- minus anyone that dare stands up as a visitor and calls them out on it. Even the remnants of fans left here can't resist it. And of course, I can't resist poking at them for it too.

The said individual was correct in his evaluation. And I'll kick anyone in the shins myself that suggests that the Spartans actually look for a new hockey coach. Not that they really care, considering they "own" us in the two most important sports on campus.

I will also give credit where credit is due. Get with the right crowd out there and they will treat you really well. Funny how a dark room and a computer changes some people...
The new arena sounds interesting and the fans do support the team so those are pluses. The 800 mile drive.. not so much.
