Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Methinks it will be Clare. He has a years experience and should be better. Serville was highly regarded coming in - the additional experience to be gained should help him along.

Unless his game improves a lot, I think it will be Clare, too. I've liked his play in the past, but he seems to be taking too long deciding what to do with the puck, and then his passes are slow on top of that. And if that doesn't pan out, his dump outs are problematic- too often they are stopped at the blue line somehow. He has time to improve, though.

Attending the Thursday game vs. Ferris St., it was a bit nervewracking when the 3rd defensive pairing with Clare-Serville were on the ice. All Clare has to do is concentrate on defense only, 100% of the time. No offensive contribution necessary. That's the price we pay for Jon Merrill's issue. The D should look very solid if Merrill does return in January...

Bennett-Chiasson
Moffie-Serville

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

I'm excited for this weekend!

My heart tells me we come out of Yost with 3 points, my head tells me we'll be lucky to leave with 1 or 2. It's never easy to come into Yost and take points. So, this weekend will be a great test for the Broncos.

I'm glad we catch you guys early, before Merrill comes back.

Let's have some fun huh?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Hardest place to play against in college hockey. They won thier last 20 home games. Catching them early is no break, the only break is not playing them at all! I'm glad my Black Bears are playing BC instead of Michigan.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

I honestly think Michigan will get the sweep. Nobody wins at Yost except Michigan, nobody.

MGoBlueHockey, your honest opinion please: What do think's going to happen this weekend?

That's the spirit. Have some fun. And yes, Michigan will be much better with Merrill, but in the long run they may be better without him for the growth of the young guys. Winning on the road in any league is not easy, but this season the CCHA has at least 6 quality teams with the rest of the league solid at home.

Fact or Fiction: WMU has a goalie named Frank Slubowski? Let's hope the fans at Yost have some fun with that this weekend.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

You don't have to tear apart a goalies name. The way I see it the Wolverines will maul thier opponents this weekend.
Just putting the puck in the net does enough damage.

Unless you count a pre-season game against University of Ontario Institute of Technology. We lost to them this year (first game) 3-2.

Luckily, nobody does count that game...........

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2011-2012 hockey thread

Michigan coach Red Berenson took a few minutes to speak with USCHO Live! co-host Jim Connelly today about his early season, goaltender Shawn Hunwick, his former associate head coach Mel Pearson and the ongoing situation of players leaving early for the pros.

Hear their conversation as well as our live guest, College Hockey Inc. executive director Paul Kelly on this week's edition of USCHO Live! tonight at 8 p.m. ET.

And here's the Wolverine.com article about it- http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1287316

Not sure what he did, but it sounded fairly bad, and they are taking it very seriously. The good thing, reading that Red said, was that he and Merrill are working this out together. So it's not as if Merrill is trying to get out of it.

Anyone else a little concerned that your prized freshman Phil's OHL rights just got aquired by Red's new arch nemesis the Windsor Spitfires?
I see another defection coming...

Anything can happen. Kind of immune to it. Thanks for your opinion.
