Michigan @ Union (Fri., 11/23) & RPI (Sat., 11/24)

Re: Michigan @ Union (Fri., 11/23) & RPI (Sat., 11/24)

What I miss most about current Yost has nothing to do with the renovations which were badly needed. Most of my dismay is the overall dead atmosphere filled with semi-Wolverine football fans posing as hockey fans now that the previous admin ran off most of the large, knowledgable student section, and the cheap canned music + goal horn (which now appears to have been muted.)

There is still canned music though, much to my dismay. It's still at the Football stadium too!

What I miss most about the current HFH is not having the band on the stage on the east end. I also don't like the fact that the WRPI and visiting broadcasters no longer broadcast from the catwalk. I am very happy that most of the poles were removed back in the early 1980s.

Edit: What I really don't like is that we lose too much. :(

Re: Michigan @ Union (Fri., 11/23) & RPI (Sat., 11/24)

I think that was more of a technical issue than a change in philosophy. I expect the goal horn to be back. For better or worse...

Someone needs to make sure some plug is left behind, then. ;)

As for the hockey- it will be interesting to see how this team plays on the road- they looked reasonably together last weekend, and there are no appearances of issues. But those always come up more when you are away from home.

I think the travel had a lot to do with the two third period losses in Alaska, That being said, they had to travel the same distance back to Troy. I hope they have made the adjustment and can carry their play for sixty minutes.
Unfortunately, I will not be around to witness or listen to the game. Take good notes.

lets go red!!!!!!

I'm not sure I'd say no issues. Defense and goaltending look to be our weaknesses for another season. Sure, we won 2 games. But they were against Mercyhurst, at home, with a small goal margin. Michigan was the better team both nights, and shots on goal reflects who handled the play. However, I expected a more dominant team than what I saw.
If the B1G continues to play the way they have so far, maybe the conference title won't be too much of a challenge.

Browns is a brew pub on River St, your basic pub fare and their beer isn't bad, I'm sure they have the Pumpkin Ale on tap this weekend. There's bombers and Dinosaur BBQ in that general area as well , just a drive up the hill to the Field House. Get down there early, as they full up quickly.

Have fun on Friday night fighting for one of the 2 urinals at Achilles or Messa or whatever it's called.

Will the Michigan band be making the trip?
Thanks for the advice. You, and everyone else that has made suggestions.
As for urinals, can't say I've ever used one. It's cute that you assume I'm a guy.
The hockey band only travels to games at Joe Louis Arena and tournament games (with rare exceptions, such as outdoor games).

You're from Baltimore. You should be used to second rate towns in the shadow of a capital. :D :p
Baltimore is awesome. You don't know what you're talking about.

Re: Michigan @ Union (Fri., 11/23) & RPI (Sat., 11/24)

I was looking at the long simmering chemistry issues we've had over the past few years- those could get worse during travel, since they spend more time together.

Hockey wise- goal tending and defensemen being too aggressive on offense are the biggest problems we have right now. Next is the in zone puck handling- but that is a lot better these days, thankfully.

I think the most obvious thing that we *should* see is the effect of Steve Shields- and if Nagelvoort and Racine improve what's bugging them (rebounds and angles respectively).

Re: Michigan @ Union (Fri., 11/23) & RPI (Sat., 11/24)

Good to know. I don't frequent the CD unless I'm going to AMCH or St. Peters (other than for hockey), so the Bombers in Albany is always closer.

Good thing you decided to waste everyone's time by trying to be the local guide, then. Tell you what, when Michigan decides to visit that outhouse up in the middle of nowhere they call Potsdam, then you can let everyone know what to do and the rest of us will smartly keep quiet. Sound like a plan? Good.

Wow, you weren't kidding about people yelling to sit down. The game hadn't even started yet and we were asked to sit down.

Re: Michigan @ Union (Fri., 11/23) & RPI (Sat., 11/24)

There are no words to describe how disappointed I am. 4 years in a row, and still the same old ****.

Terrible defense, undisciplined play, not enough effort given until it's absolutely needed.

The worst part is, they could still win 25 games and not make the tournament because the B1G sucks a fat one this year.
